Hello and thanks!
Hi all and good morning!
I am KathiKins daughter Andrea, and I just wanted to thank all of you for the wonderful support, laughs, advice, and most of all hugs you have given her over the past year and many more in the future. She talks about you all lovingly and fondly.
I looked at the more "age appropriate" forum for my husband and me, but didn't seem to be as lively as this group! We are both overweight, with different issues relating to it, but we are both committed to making changes to end that. I will be lurking all over this site learning from all of you. WLS is not something either of us are interested in at this time, but we are certainly hoping to learn about food choices and recipes. If anyone has suggestions on where to turn, please let me know. My Mom has been such an insperation and is so knowledgeable, I know she can answer any question I have, but it is also nice hearing from others.
Thank you again for helping my mom through this journey, she could have done it without you, but it was certainly made better by your knowledge and experience!
Andrea
Hi Andrea, Welcome to OFF!!!!! First, let me say, your Mom give back so much love & support to all of us here that I don't think we'd know what to do without her!!! Also, having talked to you, it seems like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
For those of us here, wls is the tool we needed, but it is only a tool. In the end, it's all in how we use the tool - and that seems to boil down to food choices, portion control & exercise. At almost one year out, my weight loss seems to have stopped and my capacity to eat has increased. My point is that we all have the same issues. Only difference is that you and your DH are only "overweight", which is something that we only dreamed of before wls. I'd like to welcome you with open arms to our little group here --- there is much to be learned & oodles of support. In fact, I sometimes wonder if I had found this kind of support many years ago, maybe I wouldn't have gotten to the point where I was morbidly obese. As for recipes, sorry - I can't really help out. I usually eat plain, simple, boring foods. Give me a lean hamburger patty & pour cambell's mushroom soup over it & I'm happy as a clam. I also eat shrimp, chicken, beef, cheese & lots of yogurt. I eat salads & veggies 'cause they're good for me, but I wouldn't care if they disappeared from the face of the earth. I think for me what helps is to think of "energizing" my body with food instead of "filling" my body with food. OK, I meant to write a line & almost wrote a book here. Hope you feel Welcome!
Andrea,
The pleasure has been ours! Your Mom inspires all of us too.
Don't lurk, jump right in and ask questions or whatever. We don't mind having a youngster join the family and WLS is not a prerequisite either.
Have you tried fitday.com to chart your daily intake? There are other good sites too but I can't think this late at night.
There is probably a place to look for recipes on the OH question and answer place - but again - late at night, this old brain goes to sleep.
Hugs to you too
Annette
What a WONDERFUL surprise to welcome you, daughter of mine!
It thrills me more than you know to share my new world with you. I know you can ask your questions and everyone will just do their utmost to offer experience and suggestions and the best part........ support.
From our conversation last night, I know that you now have great foods in your fridge to "eat to live" rather than "live to eat." That's the first step and a big one.
Thank you, EVERYONE, for welcoming a very nice young woman to OFF. I know it means alot to Andrea and to me.
Love,
Mom
