X POST: I KNEW I had one...

2 years ago I went though a CAT scan (had to drink that yucky contast stuff) when my PCP thought I may have a hiatal hernia.  Well the test came back negative.  My dr said it was just my fat pushing against my rib cage.  Well, I had my endoscopy done today and I do have a hernia!  Never thought I'd be glad to say that!  Don't know what it will mean as far as my wls is concerned, but I am glad they found it and now I can get if fixed!  They also did a biopsy because i have "mild gastritis".

I still feel a little "loopy" from the endo.  All in all everything went well.  My mom and I have laughed most of the way home because I told them  about 100 times after the drugs started kicking in that I have sleep apena and I need oxygen or a cpap during the procedure.

My PCP told be about 2 weeks ago that anytime I had surgery or any type of procedure where they knocked me out to be sure to let them know I have sleep apnea.  Evidently that is ingrained in my little brain because Mom said that's ALL I talked about.  LOL  I had to be reintibated after my back surgery several years ago because I stopped breathing in the recovery room.  That has had me terrified of having surgery again.  My PCP told me that was due to my sleep apnea and as long as they put me on CPAP I would be fine.

Dr. Mann also said he was going to recommend RNY because of my diabetes, but that we will talk about that more later and I think he may be right

Hi Donna, glad your scope went well. I haven;t had one of those yet and the  thought kind of makes me panic.  so far everyone has said they use 'twilight" so you really don't realize it.    Paulette

Paulette I have had several of them and they aren't bad at all. They do put you in a twilight sleep but every time that I had one I don' t remember anything. That is the way that I like it~oblivious!!!!!!

Paulette, I've had several of these too ... one found that I had Barrett's esophagus and now I have to have 'scopes every few years to check for cancer. It's a good thing. The first time I had it, I was awake during it but didn't feel a thing ... watched the doctor do the 'scope on TV. It was fascinating. Since, sometimes I'm awake, sometimes I'm asleep. My current doc, Dr. Farr, has given me the photos of the scope once. It's really interesting what they can find with those things. It's over really quickly. They spray this numbing spray in your throat ... it tastes kind of yucky but that's about the last thing you remember.

Donna I am so glad that most of everything is finished for you and you can go on from here. I wanted the lap band too but Dr. Stanish told me with a rny he would have me off insulin for the diabetes in 9 months and with the lap band it would take a couple of years probably. As it stands I was off everything for diabetes 1 week before surgery and I have had normal blood sugars ever since.

Brenda,  That is almost like magic isn't it?  I really just want to get on the road to health more than anything.

Paulette, Brenda is right.  You are oblivious to most of it.  My throat isn't even sore tonight.   A needle stick, 2 sprays to the throat.  then it's over...

Hi Donna. My surgeon says she fixes any hernias while she's doing the weight loss surgery -- maybe your weight loss surgeon can do the same thing if you need to have it repaired.
