Newbie, waiting with many questions
Cynthia,
I didn't have RNY, but I want to say that weight loss surgery at our age is a great thing. From what I've observed, older folks are better able to follow surgeon's/nutritionist's instructions than younger folks. And the benefits are even greater for us, because we're more likely to have developed complicated co-morbidities (mine were type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high triglyercides, sleep apnea, joint pain, and stress incontinence) that can be relieved by weight loss.
I would use the surgeon you have the most confidence in...and have the quickest access to. Aftercare is more important than a lot of people realize. If you're having a problem post-op, you need to get attention fast. You don't want to have to go to an emergency room where the WLS kowledge base may be limited. You don't want to have to travel from AK to CA when you're in trouble. Not that you'll be in trouble...I'm just saying, be prepared for the worst.
Good luck!
Jean
