3 Months no weight loss. Is this it??

I was a regular on the sleeve forum but now at 10 1/2 months find myself bored with all the newbies and the same questions.  I have been on this forum before and thought I might have more in common at this point.   I had the gastric sleeve July 18th 2007 which is removal of 85% of the stomach and no bypass of any intestines.  I lost pretty well the first 6 months all though not as fast as alot of others.  Then it really has slowed down to a crawl.  It took me forever to get to onderland.  At this point I am down 52 pounds and have been stalled for 3 months.  I have moved down a size in inches but no big drops on the scale.  I am 55 and at this point weigh 189.  I am eating about a 1000 - 1200 calories a day and get some kind of exercise at least 3 -4 days a week.  I am really worried that this is it for me.  I still have no regrets with my choice in surgeries for I did not want the gastric bypass becaus I have IBS and feared it would make me worse.  All though I would rather be 189 thann 240 anyday I am worried that my age and metabolism may put an end to my weight loss.  Any thoughts from anyone who have found themselves in this same delema would be appreciated.  Especially want to know what is the longest stall you ever had?  Will it just take years instead of months for me to get this next 48 pounds to go away?

Hello!  I had the RNY in 2005, lost 160 lbs down to 155, now at 170 but that's ok because I looked too gaunt at 155 and it really is just a number.  I have irritable bowel also and actually have not had toomuch of a problem with it since surgery.   Are you getting enough protein in?  perhaps a boost of protien would help you.  I routinely get in 100gms per day and I know many of the others do also.  I understand it takes "lightweights" longer to lose but really do not know much about the vsg except that my surgeon also does them and it is kind of like the forerunner of a DS or RNY procedure if massive amountss of weight need to be lost.  I certainly wish you a lot of luck and sorry I can't be of any more assistance!

Do you find that you can eat more than you could before.  I certainly eat no where near what Iused to  but am able to eat what I think is too much.  I am ok with just losing like 30 more even though I am only 5  2   I am so used to being so heavy that even 189 seems not that fat to me.  I can buy my clothes in regular stores now and that is a big wow for me.

I can't remember how long stalls lasted, they seemed like forever. Just above 200 pounds I got stuck for the longest time. It was frustrating. adding MORE protein and water seemed to get things moving.  Throughout this process I didn't lose weight AND inches. Either one went down or the other.  Never did I see a BIG drop on the scales, it moved at a snail's pace. The loss was more like a series of steps rather than a steady decline. No regular pattern , some were longer than others, none short. A couple of times it went in reverse too. Have you talked to your dietician for suggestions? Perhaps you need to shake up the way you are eating. Could you try small portions more often so your body doesn't think it is in starvation mode?  I eat 5 - 6 times a day, protein first and good carbs. That has worked best for me. Starting weight 320 pounds, current weight 113 pounds. Linda posts a thread every day and we chart what we are eating. Often we can see where we can alter our menu slightly to get the numbers moving in the right direction. We don't scold or berate each other when we get off track, just offer good suggestions. Jump in and join us on that thread for a while.  I hope that eases your mind a bit? Annette

Thanks I will do that.  113 that is so awsome.  200 is when I really slowed down as well.  I don't have the bypass so only lose by eating less.  One of my problems is my husband likes to eat out alot and that makes my choices a little worse some times.

Hi. I have been having the hardest time getting weight off. Yep! Another stall. I am so sick of them! I have just a .2 pounds to lose and I will be in onderland and do you think I can get it off? I made goal to be in onderland by my 20th wedding anniversary which is the 11th of this month. I thought that I would hit it easy but OMG. I know that upping the protein and water is a BIG help. Listen to some of the good ideas on here since they are so knowledgable. These girls know what they speak of. They have helped me so much. They are all priceless if you ask me.

I took forever to get to onderland then finally moved under the 190's now I am stuck at 189 that keeps popping back to the 190's and back down again.  I hardly ever get on the scale anymore.  The big bummer is even though I have lost 52 pounds it is amazing how many people don't notice.  I guess because I have been up and down so many times, maybe they are waiting for me to blow back up again.

I hate stalls, too.  It seems like I have been in one since my surgery in July 2007.  I am down 77 pounds, but it has been such a slow peocess!!  I get so frustrated, but keep on trudging along.  I have about 30 more to go and it seems like it won't cpme off!!  I do empathize with you, but this is a great forum and everybody is very supportive!! Good luck, we can do this!!!

I had a three month VSG stall, right about where you are in your journey.  I was so discouraged!  I kept after the protein and water, and my weight loss finally picked back up.  I think the fact that we are over 50 DOES have something to do with it.

Yes, my stomach can hold more, but not if I fill it up with dense protein first. Then it still seems small. But if I eat carbs, well WATCH OUT - it seems like I can eat a lot.

Sending good thoughts your way.

Hi Evelyn, Glad to see you over here.  I know it took you longer too.  Did you ever think it was just going to stop.  It has been such a long time since I have had a significant loss.  I have graduated from a 16W to a 16 regular but not to a 14 yet.  I had to go out and replace all my bras the other day.  I was hoping to go to a 38 so I would have an easier time getting bras that fit in regular stores but alas I have only moved to a 40 D  At least my boobs aren't shrinking much, all though I won't really mind when they do.  Lane Bryant stopped making my favorite bra but I found a Vanity Fair that is very similar.
