OT:San Diego Motels
Hi Karen,
We stayed at the Holiday Inn on the Bay. It was great. It is right across the street from the bay and all the ships at the ship museum. The cruise ship terminal is very close. You could walk it but with baggage we took a very short cab ride. Old Towne is not far and you can catch the trolley tours that go to Old Towne and Coronado within walking distance. Make sure you go to Balboa park - it is so much more than just the San Diego Zoo. This hotel has a free shuttle from the airport too.
Going to Mexico? We did Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlan. Beautiful trip.
Have a great time.

Hi Bev, I'll check it out. Sounds like the same stops. I've been to Alaska twice now and am looking forward to a warm water and weather experience. We're going Nov 1-8. Same stops as yours on Holland America's Oosterdam. Actually the same ship I was just on! I was in San Diego with Janet W and Nancy B in January of 2007. I loved San Diego and we didn't even make it to Balboa Park. Too much to do too little time!

We love Holland America. We were on the same ship back in May 2005 for Mexico. We went on the Veendam to Alaska's Inside Passage and did Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. I would go again in a heartbeat. I've done one other cruise on Carnival and the ship was OK but not like Holland America. Some of the others with us in other rooms had bad experiences (flooding coming up from the drain in their shower and an inattentive cabin steward). The cleanliness was lacking.
I'm sure you will have a great time. Remember you need passports now.
