Hello everyone, I am waiting on my surgery on the 17th June.  I go for pre-op June10th. Can any one tell me how long it takes to get your pre-ops back?  I am scared that something will be wrong with mine and I will have to cancel my surgery.  I am a type two diabetic for 25 yrs. Been on insulin for  29 yrs.  I have cellitious in both legs, Venius stasis, and vasculitius.( All those are spelled wrong) When I went for my consultation for wls they knew at that time about my venous stasis and said that would not be a problem the only thing is when I get a flare up it causes my  sed rate to go up I am not having a flare up now but you never know what can happen by the time my surgery date rolls around.  If any one has had any of these diagnosis and had surgery please let me know thanks Hugs Sharon D.

I personally think you are worrying for nothing. The pre op is nothing to stress about. They already know all about your health issues. They will just be checking your heart (EKG) and maybe do a chest X ray. They listen to your lungs, check your ears and eyes, blood pressure, and that is about it.  Try to relax...this is a piece of cake!! Hugs, connie d

Thanks Connie,  that makes me feel some better, I know when it is over with I will look back at how silly I was.  I have one more question, do they do blood work, like a complete blood work?  I am afraid that something will happen to cause me to cancel my surgery. I guess I feel this way because I want the surgery too bad. When it is over with I will be so very happy and on the road to good health and being alot smaller than I am now.

Hi again....no they never did any blood work. I asked a girlfriend that had this surgery too  and they didn't do blood work for her either. Like I said they are just checking to be sure the lungs and heart are okay and no obvious cold or anything like that. Good luck...post me anytime....I will be glad to chat! Hugs, connie d

Hi Sharon!  Congratulations on your surgery date!  Fortunately I had not been diagnosed with any of those except that I was very mildly diabetic (not yet on meds for it).  To answer your questions, my surgeon did require total blood workup, along with chest x-ray, ultrasound of gall bladder, and sleep study.  I'm sure your surgeon has taken into consideration your surgery date when ordering your pre-op tests.  It should not take more than a few days for him/her to get the results. Best wishes for a safe and successful surgery! Debbie

Hi Sharon,

I just want to offer a belated welcome to a wonderful forum. I don't post as often as I used to or as I would like to. Too busy living life much more fully than I did in Feb of 2005 right before having Lap RNY.  Long story short: 377 lbs, high bp, borderline diabetic, high cholesterol, stress incontinence, acid reflux, shortness of breath, pain in feet, legs, back. . . Sound familiar?  This has been a wonderful journey towards renewed health for me. Still not at goal. Hard work and continued vigilence to the tools of this surgery to get there!

Wishing you the best.  Most of us just "knew" that something would come up to stop our surgery. I managed to get a nasty cold just days before but managed to load up on meds, liquids, vitamins and still had my surgery on time.  If you weren't a bit worried you wouldn't be normal! Hugs,

Karen C

Welcome to the boards from another West Virginian! I didn't have the same health issues as you - just type II diabetes.  My blood sugar was so high the day of surgery, they had to get it under control before the anesthesiologist would agree to put me under.  We waited a couple of hours while they worked on me with insulin. Anyway - preop was a breeze!  EKG, chest x-ray, urine alysis.. from what I remember.  There was no blood work.  Lots of questions for me to answer and had a discussion with the nurse anethesist for what to expect during surgery.  She also had me ask her any questions I had. Good luck!  You're going to do great!
