Full of anxiety
So, I am 4 weeks out. I did all my research before taking the step to have this major surgery. And I have felt just fine with how everything was going.........up until tonight.
Then I decided to read the WLS Grads Forum. I thought I would see what I had to look forward to. But after spending a 1/2 hour on that board I became very anxious about my decision and that there was "no turning back".
It seemed that there were quite a few posts about problems and complications after a few years out.
I'm looking forward to being healthier, more active and full of energy. I don't want to be worrying about hernia's, pain, vitamin defiencies, dumping, twisted bowels, etc, etc, etc.
I'm following all the "rules of the pouch", I'm taking my vitamins and drinking my water.
Please tell me that not everyone has complications after they have lost their weight!!! Honestly, I was adapting very well to my new life style until tonight.
I'm not one for posting much, but I sure love reading what everyone has to say. You are a great group of people on the OFF, and I know you will give me good advice.
Thanks, Fran

Congrats on your surgery! let me just say, that sometime, the only time that people post is when they are having problems. But, how many "WOW" moments have you read in comparison. I love my rny, I have been given a new lease on life, one that I wouln't change for anything, and I'm only 8 weeks out. I haven't had any problems, maybe you won't either.

Glad you are doing well after your surgery. My suggestion is "just stop worrying".....there are some folks who have had problems however, they are the exception, not the rule. i'm 69 yrs old and 9 months out with absolutely no problems other than some dumping once in a great while(which is usually my own fault). Just keep doing what you have been, go to your follow-up visits, and don't be concerned about what might have been or could be.
As the Bible says, don't worry about tomorrow.
You'll be just fine.

Fran,
Honey, don't fret and stew over what might happen. If we continue to carry the extra weight it is almost CERTAIN that our health will deteriorate.
At 19 months out I have had more than my share of what can be considered "complications". Honest, they felt more like an annoyance than a huge problem.
Without WLS I would probably be in a wheelchair by now. Or have had a stroke or heart attack. That was a certainty.
I am off ALL 10 meds, walk, run, jump on a trampoline, up an down stairs, the list is endless. A bonus is slipping into a size 2 -4 instead of squeezing into a very tight size 4X or larger.
It can be hard to adapt to the changes in our lives after WLS. Yes, we need to be aware that problems can arise. Don't let worrying rob you of the thrills of this journey.
Annette
Fran, I agree with everything that has been said. There is always some who have problems. That is perfectly normal. But think of what that amount is in the whole picture. It is probably like only 2-3% of the surgeries done. Just follow the rules that your surgeon gave you and put one foot in front of the other. I was always told that if you want to be a winner stick with the winners. That is just what I am doing when I come here on OFF. Mys sisters and brothers here are all winners and that is what I am going to be too. If I have a problem I come here and they help me through it. These people on here are priceless. You will be fine. You were led to this surgery by something take the wonderful new life that you have been given and run like you have never run before!!! That is what I am doing and I have not regretted it for one minute and would do it again in a New York minute!!! Best of luck to you and hope to hear from you lots!!!!
