Almost 60. Is it worth it?
Unbelievable!! You all are the best! If I had any doubts or questions, they are resolved. What a great supportive group of people you are! Now I can't wait. I am exactly where you all were before surgery with the too tired for Disney, 10 pills a day etc and am so looking forward to feeling better about myself and just feeling better. I too am a college professor and was thinking about retiring in 3 years even though I love my job and my students, just because I was so tired at the end of the day. Now, I am thinking I might be the longest active professor on the campus after I have this surgery if aI feel as good as you all do! LOL! Thank you so much! I look forward to getting to know you all. Hopefully my surgery will be in August or September if all goes well.
Opening a can of worms is fun!! I loved the responses-

I had my surgery at 65 and dont regret it one bit. I am almost two years out and have lost 115 pounds since surgery.and have gone from size 22/24 to size 10s.. Getting ready to have tummy tuck done...
As far as food is concerned at our age we have more of a tendacy to follow the rules than a lot of younger girls do My surgeon has done people up to 80 years old and the one lady that he did at 79 is now 84 and still going strong , so too old NEVER.

I am 59 and had surgery in Oct, have lost 84 lbs (at a stall now, darn it) and feel better then I have in a very long time. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I have Fibromyalgia and it has almost all disappeared so listen lady you aren't too old. Get it done because you will live alot longer. Any questions feel free to write me.
Mary, let me start by telling you my age. I am 58 yrs old, a grandmother, and a great grand mother. I have always taken care of others in my family, never giving myself the most important things in life. At 57, I gave this surgery to me, for me. I was self pay, it was hard to turn lose of 13,000.00. But I would do it again, and again and again for me. Should have done it a long time ago! I don't think that it is the age that matters, I think it is the fact that I am alot better at life then I was 1 yr ago. I never had a life, now I do. WooooHooo! and you know it is so much fun...
hugs,
My suggestion is "You Go For It". I am 62 and had surgery at 61 having some of your same thoughts. I have lost 108 lbs and feel WONDERFUL. Yes, it was worth it and much more.
Yes, my life centered around food and friends as well. You will still be able to enjoy your friends and food, just MUCH smaller portions! You will find that your desire for a lot of the "bad choices" of food groups will disappear and be replaced by fruits and veggies! That was a real shocker to me because I loved my potatoes, pasta, and sweets!
My medical problems have disappeared and I can move around and enjoy the things I used to enjoy with my friends.
What do friends think? Good question. I wondered as well and still wonder. I finally decided to do it for "ME" and "my health. I am sure some think it is the chicken way out. For those of us who have been heavy all our life, that is not a true statement. It is the only way out left!
Check out the DS forum, and learn more about the DS surgery-I am 57 and am having it at the end of June. It will let you have (in my opinion) a good social life centered around dinners at frineds etc and that is one thing that I was looking for when researching for my surgery. Thankfully my family is very supportive -they have seen me struggling and then almost give up for years-I have gotten to the point that I don't care if anyone frowns upon what I am doing-I am the one that has to live with my weight and so far it has been the pits! Good luck to you!
