Miserable Night....what do you do?
Hey There Karen
Sounds like you got lots of good advice from everyone out there, but when you mentioned walnuts I immediately thought "diverticulitos" so I wasn't surprised to hear that you had a problem with that before. I have it and my doctor told me I cannot eat nuts, because they will get stuck in the little holes in my colon and it will hurt.
I wouldn't disregard what the others have told you but keep that in mind. Just a thought
Lou
Aloha again Lou....Wow, that is new info for me!! It makes perfect sense, but no one in my program has said nuts were not good .... in fact, suggested that they are a great source of fiber and protein. I'm thinking that you might be dead on about the walnuts in the salad...that is exactly when the stomach problem began....after eating those.
Thank you so much for coming in and sharing this wisdom.......another piece of the puzzle for me!!
Aloha nui loa,

Karen, isn't it amazing how much support you can get just by asking! Our OFF sisters are wonderful, loving people! Even at almost 4 years post-op, I still have trouble - can't pinpoint any certain foods except bread, rice, pasta, and crisp cooked veggies - I can eat corn on the cob and salad - go figure. Leftover meat seems to settle better than freshly cooked - my little Oscar is one strange character!
Anyway, hope you are feeling better and wanted to mention be careful with the pink stuff. I was told it has an aspirin-like component and should be avoided. When my tummy gives me trouble, if I can't get whatever it is to come back up, I sip warm tea, or suffer through it. The bad feeling lasts anywhere from 1/2 hour to as long as 3 hours.

Aw Karen, so sorry you had a bad night! As the others have said, it is best to have it checked out, just to be on the safe side.
Im almost three years out and have an episode about twice a month, its usually something like meat or veggies. When I do, I too slip away tot he bathroom and take care of it with the old gag reflex! Sometimes its just from eating too much too fast.
As tothe still losing,,I wish that was my problem! Im still stuck at the same weight for the last year,,give or take a pound or two. Oh well,,,sigh,,,,
Take care Beautiful Lady!
Blessings
Betsy

Hi Karen,
As I am almost 3 years out, I still sometimes get these episodes. Not often, but sometimes for no rhyme or reason that I can tell. I have found when I need for it to come up that it won't unless I drink a 1/4-1/2 cup of water and immediately gag myself. Water seems to give pouch something to help it come up. I hate throwing up, but hate pain worse. Good luck. Sara
Aloha Karen...
You posted this on my 4 yr WLS anniversary... coupla thoughts... you ate walnuts and then said you were treated for diverticulitis a month or so back... no more nuts for you little one. And, someone else mentioned bowel obstruction... yeah, been there done that have the scars to prove it. This was very painful and did kind of cause intermittent pain for a few weeks... but what I had in December, that frightened me into thinking I might be having ANOTHER bowel obstruction, just before we left for Hawaii.... that was completely cured by eating Papayas... yes, papayas... bet you could find some of those locally, you lucky girl. I can't even find them now that I'm home... :-(
Well, hope you are feeling better and find that it was just silly overeating and nothing serious. Take care, Nancy
Best wishes,
Nancy
