Miserable Night....what do you do?

Aloha and good morning OFFers,

Well, yesterday and MOST OF THE NIGHT were horrible!! I just read Marc's post about being sick after eating four burritos, and I could identify. Not with the eating burritos, but with the misery that comes when you eat something you shouldn't or too much.

I felt great yesterday, took a nap, and then ate some jello/cottage cheese/fruit/nut salad.....and about an hour later I began getting stomach pain.....not too bad, but irritating. Later in the evening I ate a slice of whole grain bread with peanut butter (never made me sick before), and I was bent over in pain soon afterwards. I went to bed at 6:00...just to lie down but felt like I was going to die. Almost went to emergency room. I tried the pink stuff for stomach...that came back up. Even water was coming back up. I finally got to sleep around 3:00 a.m. and slept for two hours.

Now, it's 6:30 a.m. and I'm feeling almost normal, but I'm afraid to eat!! I'm down another 3 lbs.....and really almost anorexic looking.

My questions to you, my sisters and brothers, is how often does this happen to you, and what do you do about it? What might I have done wrong? I sometimes forget that I have this tiny pouch after weeks and months of no problems...and then, wham.......a day of misery.

OK..I'm going to go try having a yogurt........very slowly.

Thanks for any words of wisdom.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

I had my first upchuck experience Sat. I'm a little over 2 months post op. Boy, I sure don't want another. It was fresh veggies... I didn't go as slow as I should have. Everything since then has to be soft soft soft. I'm concerned about my meds now. How will I get them down. I know I will but..... It has drained me of energy and desire to eat. This too shall pass.. .. .. but in the mean time it is a good reminder to pay closer attention to what I should be doing. It is hard to tell you what may have happened.. each of us is affected differently and at different times.. .. . Best Wishes Millie

Aloha Millie.....One of the things I LOVE about this place of sharing our experiences is that I get answers, ideas, inspiration from each and every one of you. Sometimes we who are years away from surgery get blase about our food, and don't do things like CHEW, or choose things that are difficult to digest even with a whole stomach...like whole grain bread....and then gulp it and don't take the care required to not have an episode like I did.

Thanks for making me remember what I have forgotten to do....so much help.

Aloha nui loa,

Aloha sweet Margo......All kinds of things went through my mind during this episode and believe me, kinks, and obstructions and strictures all came to mind. But then in backtracking and thinking about what I ate yesterday, I'm thinking I ate way too big a portion, and didn't chew the walnuts thoroughly, so it's probably all my fault and could have been avoided.

I'm glad I have an appointment on my calendar with my bariatric doc on June 12th and see my surgeon in Honolulu in July for two year checkup. They might have answers that have come from similar experiences.

Thanks for your always welcome support!

I am so sorry you are having such a rough time. As soon as I feel a little miserable after eating something...differs all the time...I stick my finger down my throat and gag myself....very seldom does food come up, but many times lots of saliva comes up...don't know what causes it...but after about 10 minutes then I feel okay....sometimes when I drink a little carbonated something....I get a tight tight feeling and if I gag myself it seems to release something and I am better.

I can't imagine suffering all night long with that. We have good friends that know if all a sudden I have to leave the table...and I come back later with myeyes a little teary...something went down wrong.

I think the most important thing is not to be afraid to eat...it will have horrible effects on your body. I can very seldom eat a piece of bread, but I can down a big salad, like I just had for lunch with tuna in it.[but lots of dressing on the tuna to get it down easy] My peanut butter I eat from a dish with a spoon...no bread, heck you could eat it from the jar since you live alone.

Take care sweetie.

Aloha beautiful Marti.......I have missed you!!

I was doing a lot of finger-down-the-throat last night....and it's horrible. I'm not one who throws up easily but I was so miserable I kept trying to make the pain go away any way I could. I think finally I got everything out and was relieved at last.

I just had a Light 'n Fit yogurt with a little bran added and so far that is doing fine. Hopefully this was just an episode of not being careful of how much I ate, how fast, etc.

Thanks, honey, for sharing your experience. This is what makes me come back over and over to my OFF family....I always can get something no matter what the situation....and hopefully, I can help someone else when it's their turn for a challenge.

Big Aloha hug,

Maui Karen

Goodness , Yuckie tummy from eating to much, to fast, wrong combo is the pits.  Do you have some Ginger tea to help sooth your baby pouch.  Be sure to drink a lot of liquid today , you lost all your fluff yesterday and need to replace the electrolites and fluids.  Maybe the next time you have walnuts you can chop them into smaller size before you enjoy them on your salad. Hope the pink has returned to your cheeks this afternoon, Hugs , Peg

Aloha cutie.........Ginger tea? I'm going to find that tomorrow. Iwould have paid BIG BUCKS last night for anything that would have taken away the pain.

Today, ironically, I'm doing fine. I've not eaten lots, but what I have is giving me no problem at all.

Good idea about chopping up walnuts on salad........I will do it!

Big hug!

Aloha sweet Karen from Maui!   I know all too well what you went thru!  ICKY!  I don't usually have pain like that for that long, but just last week I was eating some chili with cheese and some taco chip shreds in it, when KABLOOM I couldn't eat any more.  Day before I was fine with same amount, not a problem.  I find that each day can be different.  One day I can eat until the cows come home, next not much at all.  (maybe that balances us out? LOL)  I don't puke easily either and even the ole finger down the gag reflex often doesn't help but once that little bit comes up, I feel better.  I sometimes wonder if it is a spasm in the pouchy area....or just a bit too fast or a bit too much and OUCH!  Sometimes to get the pukes going I drink a few sips of water, that often gets it going when the finger can't.  Gross talking about it, but that seems to be the way of life for us hybrids!   Hugs to you my wonderful friend!
