Hi everyone,  Have a great and LOOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGG Memorial Day Weekend!!!!!  I took the day off and I needed it so I will have a really great weekend.  I am going to work on cleaning out all my too big clothes and I am looking forward to it.  Maybe we will finally get that garage cleaned out of moving boxes.  I can't believe it has been almost a year since we moved and I still the garage and basement filled with boxes of clothes and stuff.  Time for a clean out for sure.   We are planning a fun weekend with going to the local parade and a neighborhood picnic.  I need to find a couple of good appetizer receipes.  Any ideas? Got to get to it! Hugs, Jan

Not much exciting around here.  We had a deluge yesterday.  My usual 20 minute drive home took almost an hour.  Traffic was creeping along about 5 mph in the blinding rain.  OMG, I prayed the whole way home!  Once I got on my side of the river, it wasn't so bad, but after I'd been home about 10 minutes, it came down in buckets. Memorial Day isn't a big holiday here, George and I both have to work.  I'm hoping da boss will go home for lunch today and stay home - that'll be holiday enough for me! No big plans for the weekend.  We have a Zephyr's game Sat. night,  George, our boys, and a friend are going crawfishing Sun.  I think I'll go see a movie and maybe shop a bit. I'm wearing my new tennis shoes today - feels like I'm walking on a cloud!  Most of you have mentioned that your shoe size has changed since wls - not mine - still got big feet 9 1/2 wide in tennis shoes!  My feet are much bigger than a coworker who is 5' 8" tall (I'm 5' 4"). Have a great weekend! Debbie

I'll add my good morning to the lot! I had my DS one week ago today and I'm doing pretty well. I'm recuperating with my daughter and she doesn't have a scale so I think I'm losing weight - - -but who knows! Having a little trouble with insomnia but I'm sure all will work out. It's a beautiful day here in San Francisco and I'm looking forward to a great weekend. Hope you all have three days of joy.

Congrats on having your DS and the weight will drop, just do what you are supposed to and in time you will be amazed at the difference in your life.  Please come back often to participate here as we are a warm bunch and like to hear about other peoples successes and challenges. Hugs, Laureen

Hi All. This will be a welcome long weekend- and after that I have 4 days left of work (school). I will be working some days over the summer, but the work is much easier during the summer. Today we have a big meeting with the boss to determine assignments for next year. It is an emotional meeting- you can end up with extra work- another school assignment- who knows? The CA budget crisis is affecting schools a LOT! Our state spends less per child than all but two other states, but we have some hard problems to deal with. We have more English as a second language learners and migrant children. We also have an onslaught of Autism, which is extremely expensive and graught with due process (court proceedings- mucho $$$$$). Now we are being cut even more.... it's frustrating to say the least. On a happier note, one of our speech therapists is getting married in July and we will be combining business with pleasure today. We have a special surprise shower planned after the meeting. I made favors and ordered a tiered cake (a mini wedding cake- a tradition I started about 15 years ago. I made a little wedding veil for her to wear at the shower. She will definitely be surprised since she just told us about the wedding a couple of weeks ago... and at the end of the year we are all on overdrive. I'm excited to see her reaction. On Monday my husband and daughter and I are going to look at a few condos. We are looking to buy one for our daughter while the market is in the toilet. Our house is almost paid off (within $30,000) and real estate is so in crisis that we are going to bite the bullet and get something for Laura to live in while she is in college and beyond. A house payment is actually less than rent these days here. As far as my weight loss goes, I'm getting close to 100 lbs. down from my starting weight. I still fight with myself about food... the mental piece of this is the biggest struggle (I kinda expected that). Happy Weekend to you! Julia

Hey Julia and all.....
Julia, I just finished reading "Eye Contact" a fiction book about autism.....it was rather disturbing as a little girl is murdered in the very beginning and she was with an autistic boy...we need "lighter" reading in our book club!
Any suggestions???

Well I am off wor****il next Wednesday. Need to get outside and rake in some garden soil that was dumped into my flower bed yesterday. It's cool here again and really cloudy, so I am trying to get myself pumped to go outside. Got my one front planter done yesterday and my tomato plant is in his pot. Just need some warm days and nites to get things moving along.

Not much else planned for the weekend. Got invited to my sister's for Monday for a cookout. I'm taking a marinated veg. salad......will use splenda and olive oil, along with red wine vinegar or maybe balsamic. Usually make up the dressing as I go....lol.

Am reading Maeve Binchy's "Scarlet Feather".....I love her books (she also wrote Tara Road) because I love Ireland and have already informed my brother I want to go there on a trip! Will probably get a lot of reading done, as my cleaning angel came today, so the house is spotless and I won't need to do it.

Julia, I am stuck with 84-85 lbs down, and I know it's my own fault. Just plain eating too much and probably too many carbs. It's not because I don't exercise, as I am doing twice a day five days a week. Got to get on the stick as I want 100 lbs gone by Aug. 17th, my surgery one year anniversary.

Well, better get moving and get the raking done.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend with good weather and nice temperatures. Stay healthy all!

Pat

Hi Carla and everyone: Yes, I slept better, I'm less stressed and even though I'm still overdrawn and have no money other than some change, things are better today. At least they seem better. I guess a good night's sleep makes everything seem a little brighter.  Carla, you will love the Biltmore House. Lots of walking, though. I did it the first year after my WLS and did all those stairs from the second floor to the third floor (no elevator there) and from the first floor to the basement (no elevator there, either), on my bad knees, plus walked all the gardens (lots of stairs, until it came to going down to the river. At that point, I was beat, and sent my brother Gary  down by himself while I sat there with my cane. I even sent him down with my camera to the end of the walk to take of photo of the whole house ... just couldn't walk anymore. Figure a whole day for the tour. I was so tired the next day Gary had to literally drag me out of our condo in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. But we had a great time; he just kept saying he wished he was with his son and daughter-in-law who were better hikers.  I had an appointment with the other ortho doc in same office as my ortho doc; he looked over my knee, said he didn't think I needed new surgery but my knee was inflamed. He suggested anti-inflammatories; I told him why I couldn't take them. He said maybe we could try Celebrex; I asked him to contact my bariatric surgeon for permission and he said he would do that. I liked him a lot; he was very sympathetic to my problems and didn't just pooh-pooh my pain issues. He also didn't immediately suggest more PT; he said it looked like I was doing well enough on my own and my range was good, so I should just continue on with what I was doing. (Which is good, because I can't afford to pay anyone else more.) On the way out, the check-out clerk asked me to pay my bill. I told her I didn't have any money; told her I wanted to pay out of my stimulus check but had to use it to get my phone reconnected. Things have been so hard. My boss asked me to work tomorrow night if one of our copy editors calls in sick. I said I would. It will give me double time. I'd rather have the day off, really, but then, I really need the money. But then again, I need the rest. I'm getting too stressed out.  Anyway, I should get to work. I got in here early because I came right from the doctor's appointment, made lunch, read the paper. See ya later ... probably not til Monday when I come in for triple time.

Good afternoon to all my OFF sisters. I am hoping that the day is treating all of you well. I went garage sailing this morning. Bill went with me but he didn't really look at anything. He stayed in the car most of the time. I got some bread and butter plates that match my dishes (the ones that are about 35 years old!!!) and some small bowls too. The box came with a lot of other stuff that matched like coffee cups and saucers but I don't need them. I am planning on giving them to Goodwill. I only paid $2 for the whole box so I am a happy girl! I got my great neice 2 pairs of jean shorts for her to play in this summer. She is just a string bean like her dad. She is 10 and wears a size 8 in jeans but they are a bit big. I hope that she likes them. I also got 2 books that was on the Oprah book club and they were .25 each. I loved going to the sales. Usually Ella and I went each week but she has been spending a lot of time in Indianapolis since her first little granddaughter has been her. I can't blame her on that one!!! I am on my second load of dishes in the dishwasher. They are all from the box I bought. I want to get some stuff picked up here in the living room and the dining room. There isn't much but it is driving me nuts. I should clean the bathroom but I think that is going to wait until tomorrow. lol Bill is at work so everything is quiet here. I love the silence. I have the sliding door open a little bit but it is overcast here and kind of  chilly. I am going to be closing them soon.  I am going to have to go to the store to get a few steaks for Monday. Bill invited his cousin over for a cook out since she was going to be by herself and he didn't like that idea. I am going to have steaks and make a pasta salad and I think I am going to get some veggies to grill too. I think that would be good. Got any ideas on what ones to get? I was thinking of onions and zuchinni but don't know what else. Any ideas would be a big help to me. I have to get some corn on the cob too since Bill is wanting some of that too. I am going to make a dessert but not sure what. I am thinking of banana pudding with the sugar free wafer cookies or something with ricotta cheese. I will take any ideas on the cheese too. My mind is playing dead today. lol I can't seem to think of anything today!!  I better get going. I will talk later on. I am sending love and hugs and lots of prayers for everyone, special prayers for those who need them today.
