Thank you for getting us going Margo. Although I am an early riser, Tom began to complain that I sat at the computer instead of having our morning coffee and gab session together. When he said that, I knew it was time to get my priorities in order. Can't have him feeling neglected. The cold temperatures are making me more miserable. When my hands and feet get cold they also get numb yet ache- this is due to the periferal neuropathy. Adding extra layers doesn't help once I am cold. The only way to restore warmth is to use a heating pad but that can take hours.  A trip to the grocery store is always hard. The stores seem super cold. Lately I do my shopping in several smaller trips to keep from getting cold. A quick trip in and out lessens the exposure to the cold.  The doctors have determined this was caused by the rapid weight loss and there is no cure. This is one side effect of WLS I never knew about beforehand. Would I have reconsidered surgery had I known? HECK NO !!!  Annette

Annette When you get so cold that your bones hurt, try getting into a nice warm shower for a while.  The moist heat penetrates even better than a heating pad.  I'm cleaner now than I've ever been in my life.  My water bills have increased, but so be it ! And just think, if you take a bunch of showers every day, Tom might start to miss you and offer to help you wash your back... Or something....  You'd have to let him in, 'cause you wouldn't want him to feel neglected, now, would you.....?   Candy

Thanks for the suggestion Candy. Maybe I need more of the "or something" to keep warm.

HI Annette, I am with Candy. When I get so cold like that which was all day everyday, I took a hot bath. Our water bill went up but Oh well, it was the only thing that could warm me. I used the heating pad to stay warm but once I got cold, had to do the bath. Showers are good too but I taped the drain thingy on the tub and let it get as full as possible. You take care and I hope it gets hot in your area soon. Cheryl

Thanks Cheryl, We had to convert our tub to a walk-in shower for Mom - only one bathroom. No more baths here but the hot shower will work. I sleep with a heating pad under my feet and the electric blanket going full blast each night.  Eventually it will warm up - I hope!!!!  To think I used to love the cold weather and seldom wore a coat or sweater. Summers were agony because I couldn't get cool. From one extreem to the other.  I just got on the scale and realized I dropped 3 more pounds last week. That may be the reason I feel extra cold too. Plus it is only 40 degrees here today.

I also have the same neuropathy as you Annett , and I'm miserable with, it . I had a spinal stimulator put into my hip to relieve the pain , also use a fentanyl patch 75 mg , plus neurotin 3 times a day . Nothing seems to touch the pain .  I never had it until after WLS  . Like you said going to the grocery store will do you in , I get by the coolers and etc.  That's just about the end of me then .   My feet have a mind of their own also , I trip easy and my shoes fall off my feet as I walk along . I believe this condition is cause from the surgery .  Usually the people that get it are diabetic , I'm not .  I'm not sorry about having WLS at all and would do it again . Also bruise very easily , skin is very thin and will actually peel back and bleed , no fat under the skin , seems worse on my lower arms . I buy alot of bandaids  .  I only have 2%  bmi , which is way too low , the doctors have taken all kinds of tests and have found nothing wrong with me . I can't seen to gain any weight  .  I have been eating everything in site to try to keep my weight up and not lose anymore ......Sandy  327 - 104

Sandy, The neuropathy is so weird but better than the first (and incorrect) diagnosis of a stroke. I am scared at the thought of gaining weight but don't want to keep losing either.  At first I thought my gait was off because the thunder thighs disappeared. Nope, it's from the numbness in my feet. Shoes and slippers go helter skelter all the time for me also. We have to be VERY cautious not to fall and break something. This WLS is still full of mysterious events. I appreciate hearing from a person so far out and knowing I'm not alone! Thank you very much!! Annette
