How much do you pay for your fitness club membership?

I am currently looking into joining a fitness club.   Treadmill They are building a brand new LA fitness very close to me and I stopped by today to listen to their hard sell.

Right now they are offering a fee of $95 total enrollment fee for up to 4 family members and $34.99 a month for each person. They said the $34.99 will never go up as long as I am a member.  They are not opening until early July and I wonder if they will be having any better offers closer to their grand opening. You know they won't tell you things like that since they are probably on commission.

Does anyone have any experience at LA fitness? Let me know the good, the bad and the ugly.

I am with the YMCA.... (I am the one wearing the construction outfit next to the indian) I pay $40 a month for 2 of us... This usually works for the membership clubs... tell them that (whoever) down the road is waving the enrollment fee and ask if they will also do that if you sign up right now... .... and just see what happens ... Good luck!

I go to a new Gold's Gym.  It's very nice, as I'm sure your new LA Fitness gym will be too!  I pay annually because I hate monthly bills.  I think it averages out to a little more than $30 per month.  I'm sure you will love it.  I think their rates are probably pretty standardized.  If you wait they may have a special on the enrollment fee, but like Marc said--maybe they will waive it now if you ask.  Good luck! Hi.....I belong to Snap Fitness. They waved the enrollment fee and I pay $34.95 a month. If I paid for a year at a time it would be 29.95 per month. Good luck deciding where to go. I too would try asking them to wave the enrollment fee. They do that alot. Hugs, connie d

My husband and I joined the YMCA. I don't know if it's offered nationally, but here they wave the new-member fee for people who have had bariatric surgery, a month free, and time with a individual trainer to get you started. Like our entertaining brother, Marc, we pay about $40 per month. They offer many class -- all free to members.

Mary,  Do you have a Planet Fitness there?  It's only $75 to join and $10 a month plus there is no contract.  I love it there!  I can't understand how it's so cheap because it's a huge gym with tons of equipment. Judy

Hi Mary,

I belong to LA Fitness and love their facilities, I'm paying the same price and what I like is that they are pretty much everywhere I travel to, so if I'm visiting my brother in LI or my daughter's in Florida I can still get a workout in, the atmosphere is good, the classes and the pool, all good. . .   also like that they are open 7 days a week, 5 a.m. to midnight during the week and 8 a.m. weekends, though I'm not sure if they close at 8 pm both weekend nights or it's 9 on Sat and 8 on Sunday.   I give them a thumbs up. You don't have to join until they open, sometimes they waive the enrollment fee, but they may not seeing as it's going to be brand new and lots of folks will probably sign up, just for that aspect alone. . .

Good luck, Hugs, Laureen

Mary, I pay $45.00 a month for a single membership to a place called Princeton Club. There is no enrollment fee with them and the contract is for a year. This is the 4th year I have signed up, it is a very nice facility with lots of eequipment, tv's music channels, pool resistence pool, steam room and sauna and hot tub....they also have lots of free classes including Darlene's Zumba......I get a Senior Citizen discount also, but it is still $45, but it is the best club in our area and 5 minuets from my house.................................I also think it is nice to have the LA Fitness accessible all over the country....wish I did, as when I travel I don't have anywhere else to go. Hugs, Marti

I did belong to the Y; it was $62 a month and you could go to all the Y's in the greater Grand Rapids area. My work subsidizes half of that each month. Unfortunately, due to my financial constraints, I had to quit. Maybe I'll rejoin next year, but even $31 a month was getting to be too much for me. The Y offered a scholarship but because technically I make too much, I can't get one.
