What's New Friday?
hello, everyone!
I'd planned to stay home this week but havent managed to. Yesterday I was going out to pick up 2 dozen homemade meat pies made by a group to raise funds for a local nursing home. The pies, at $2.00 a piece, are delicious..thick with lean ground meat and thin pastry. I can eat 1/2 slowly. Id ordered a dozen for Danny & Amy, 1 1/2 dozen for us and half a dozen for Mother. So the money goes for neat things for the nursing home (last time they bought a huge screen TV fir their lounge, another time, a grand piano, another time yet, furnished some common rooms...and the quality is good.
On my way out the door, JB asked me to go to the credit union to deposit some cheques, stop at the pharmacy to pick up his prescription and drop in at the hardware store and pick up the six new lantern/light fixtures for our new verandah that he had ordered. I got all that done and at the credit union AND the pharmacy, people I knew exclaimed at how "great" I looked....hmmm....and at the hardware store, I felt rather disconcerted when men kept smiling at me..I even turned around, afraid I had a trail of TP stuck to my shoes somehow...sheesh!
I then drove all across the city to another city and got the pies then back to the forst city(due to a time constriction) , ended up in Pennington's..yes..a SALE! Bought a gorgeous rayon dress- mauve with tiny white flowers, sleeveless and a matching solid mauve shirt jacket...okay..I also bought a beautiful blue shirt too. Well, the truth is, they also had a buy one get another free sale on jewellery so I bought a pretty pink beaded necklace and earrings...and the freebie thatI chose was a mauve-beaded bracelet...well, I got my ass outa there before I found anymore sales! So I spent about $135.00..JB tells me NOT to spend money right now but that dress was perfect for summer and I do not have much summer stuff at all...it makes a pretty and light summery outfit.
Next stop, FabricLand and I bought some soft lace trim to sew along the bottom hem from the inside, just to add an inch or so to the length..always traying to hide my swollen ankles..then more lace along the collar of the dress as well, just to tie it all in...should look pretty with the solid mauve jacket, I hope. They had a sewing kit on wheels with the pop-out handle llike a suitcase does..about half the size of my Samsonite suitcase which was perfect for when I need to carry alot of paperwork and stuff like at conferences(I have three this summer). The BEST part is that it was BRIGHT PINK (InfoDIVA colours) and HALF PRICE! But I didnt buy it.
I went home and showed JB my grreat bargains..somehow he just doesnt get it...men! Anyways, I told him about the InfoDIVA pink bag and how it was half price and would be perfect...and he went outside w/o a word about it..so I thought Id better forget it considering Id already spent so much.
This morning, I was drunking my protein shake and as he went outside to work on the tractor shed roof, he walked by me and mumbled that Id better get that bag I wanted while its still there. WOOHOO! I drove into the city and got the last one..and the ONLY bright pink one.
Then I stopped in to see my friend who is recovering from a total hip replacement and had tea with her. We had melba toast rounds with assiago cheese and extra-aged white cheddar and a tiny spoon of nectarine jelly on top...it was SO good with the mango tea! Thr nectarine jelly is simply ripe fruit, mashed and mixed with pure lemon juice and frozen in big zip-lock bags ...when you want some, just open the ziplock bag and break off a chunk of the mashed fruit. You do NOT taste the lemon and its sweet ...theres NO need for sugar and it tastes like fresh fruit!
I can hardly wait til our srawberries come out in June!
Well, thats my day..got home at 4:30..put a huge Dutch rouladen beef roast into the oven with roasting potatoes..I will make a salad and steam the fresh asparagus that JB cut this morning.
I guess Id better look busy for a while..gotta keep the men on their toes!
