At 15 months post-op I know the drill with my protein, vitamins, fluid intake and exercise, but what do you do when the scale just WON'T MOVE in a postive downward direction.  I am feeling so down, depressed, and defeated.  I don't know what else to do I just want to cry. Have I reached the point where my weight loss is DONE!Now in my former self this is the point where I'd go to the freezer and consume a half a gallon of ice cream, now I feel like I should just overdose on SF Popsciles! Genie, I can't offer you much advice as I am only 6 months post op myself. But what I can do is tell you don't give up just keep eating right gettng in your protein and that blasted scale will move again. Just say a little prayer at bedtime tonight and ask God for guidence in the right direction. I will pray that your scale moves for you and try not to get depressed it just does not help. Be positive and you will get the results you are hoping for. God Bless you. KathiM

OH NO!  Don't feel defeated!  Between all of us here we can help you out. First of all, are you getting in enough calories?  How many grams of protein are you getting every day, and are you getting in all your fluids?  This is where you need to start.  At 15 months, I would bet you would need about 1200 calories a day (according to my Nut, which I am not).  Do you keep track of your calories on a site like Fitday.com?  Let us know, there are a lot of smart cookies here, somebody will come up with an idea for you

Hi Susan, since I've posted this message I was able to talk to my nutritionist.  I was eating 900 to 1000 calories a day, but she told me to increase it to 1200 calories a day with about 90 to 100 grams of protein.  I was falling a little short of the water intake with about 55 to 60 ozs a day. I find it hard to drink water in the winter, but really load up during the hot weather.  I have just started keeping a food journal on Calorie King for about two weeks now so I'm hoping that will help.  I'm really at a lost for anything else I might do...I work out about 3 to 4x's a week with a personal trainer plus (Duchess) I walk everyday, some days more than others...I am losing inches but its not showing on the scale.

Hi Genie, I am sorry you are feeling down, but my God, I just visited you webpage for the first time, and look at how for you've come. Maybe your body is just taking a bit of time to lose some inches before more weight comes off. Aren't you glad that we can't go back to our old habits all that easily. I know I am. So instead of ice cream, sit down with a diet hot chocolate or treat yourself to a Starbucks skinny vanilla latte. You'll feel great and not have the guilts afterward. Then look in the mirroe at how much more beautiful you have become, and let it be just a little while longer. Good luck,, nancy

Hi Nancy,    Have you posted on the Over 50 board before?   I don't remember seeing you post before & wondered if you are new here.   If so WELCOME!!!!  Are you in Orange County?  I am in San Juan Cap & Kathikins is in Stanton.   We sometimes meet to go walking.   We'd love to have you join us for a walk & a cup of java (or a skinny vanilla latte for you).  I've read your profile & I can see how well you've done.  If you are local, it sure would be fun to meet another Sister!

I think the others have given you excellent advice, but I'll tell you what I did when I stalled above 200 pounds and couldn't get below. Our bariatric center has these protein products, which we all had to take pre-op. There were bars, shakes, puddings, chili, spaghetti, etc. Anyway, what I did was do a modified version of their program: I did two protein products a day and then a regular meal at lunchtime (which is my big meal of the day because of the hours I work). I had an AchievOne Latte shake for breakfast (which I usually do); I had a Lean Cuisine and a salad for lunch; then I had one of these protein meals (chili, spaghetti or soup, usually jazzed up with added protein of cheese) for dinner. Then for snacks, I did the protein bars. I really cut down; I never really count calories or protein (I never did well doing that, but you may be different so go with what works for you). I did this program for two works. At the end of those two weeks, I was under 200 pounds, and I never went back up. Don't know why it worked, but it did. It was like I jump-started my body into losing again.  Some people have done the opposite; they've added calories for awhile because their bodies are starving (or think they're starving) so they add calories and then cut back, then they start losing.  Don't feel down; I agree, your body is taking a break. You may be losing inches somewhere; your body may be rearranging itself.  Keep up the good work! You look fabulous!

Genie....you are so beautiful inside and out. Please don't fret about the weight loss. The inches are coming off and the pounds will again too. Just keep following the rules. Stressing out about it isn't helping anything. Try to relax and go with the flow. When your body is ready the pounds with slip away! Hugs, connie d
