Within 2.5 miles from my house there are 6 stations.  Prices range between $3.13 - $3.34.  There's a refinery about .5 mile down and across the river from me.

I'd like to say you are lucky about having so many gas stations to choose from since so many have closed out here, but I wouldn't be happy to be close to a refinery! How is your thumb? Marti in San Jose

Just filled up the car at $3.48/gallon in the 'burgh and put out a total of $58...ouch!!!  Was just talking about this yesterday, and reminiscing about the old days.  My furthest memory of gas prices was the Esso station and "put a tiger in your tank" at a cost of 27 cents/gallon.  And if you filled it up, you got a premium offer like a fuzzy tiger's tail to hang on the rear view mirror, or a coffee cup, stuffed animal, or a case of soda.  When I got my first car...a 1974 Chevy Vega, I filled the tank at 45 cents/gallon.  So what the h**l is going on here????? DH filled the van yesterday at a total of $91.00--double ouch!!  There outta be a law!!! Hugs, Lora

In my estimation, as to what is going on here, let's remember the 70s, when there were shortages and odd and even fill-up days. . .  the first warning of what is now happening, nothing changed much, though we downsized our cars for a while (Japanese and now other countries made out), then through the 80s, they started touting these SUVs and trucks, the bigger the vehicle, the more status, the fat cats sat back and waited and now with our gluttonous big waste vehicles sitting on lots, we are paying the price for what the Fat Cats sat back and waited on. . .  we have biggie sized ourselves into a bad place, one that to my way of seeing is going to take some time and a lot more than our current political regime to fix. . .  why haven't our American car companies given us affordable alternatives long before now?  and now, only because Japanese did it first. . .  our great country is full of apathetic people, whose only goal is to make money and get bigger and better everything on the back of middle America. . .  sorry, it's just how I feel about things.  We need to get into the voting booths.  I feel for the many on fixed incomes and one day soon, it might be us.

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

Lora, I lived up on a hill in Glenshaw in 1972-1973 for about a year before moving to San Jose.  That's the last time I remember seeing those "real" voting machines with the little levers!  When I moved to California all I got was a funny little "pen-like device" and punchcards and it's been like that ever since until I switched to absentee ballots!  Is Harmon's Supermarket, outside Etna, still there? Wow Marti...it sure is a small world!!  I know where Glenshaw is!!  I grew up near the zoo.    Nope, Harmon's is gone.  Most things in Etna are gone due to the floods of recent years!  You should have seen the Blarney Stone Restaurant (across from Jack Sullivan Chevrolet).  During one of the floods, people were on the roof (2 1/2 story bldg.) to stay safe!  And the vehicles from Jack S. Chev were floating around the street.

What took you to CA??  Although I sure don't blame you!!!
