I'm going to assume you are a working lady Debi, because I am living on disability at $1,100 a month with no food stamps and no help.  With rent at $800, insurance for the car at almost $90, it doesn't leave much for the niceties of life.  Figure pretty soon I'll be living in my Honda. Yep- I can relate Debi- good ol' California gas taxes. Our gas is above $3.70 a gallon in Manteca, CA. To fill my tank it costs around $60. That comes to about $400 a month to get to work. Julia

Yep, just one more item added to the list of "why we left San Diego".  My gosh, 3.70???  Little Rock AR:  3.10-3.50, depending on grade and what station it's purchased from.  It cost me a little over $36 to fill the other night.

I'm in Southern Califronia and it was $3.57 at a regular filling station.  We paid $3.43 at Costco on Saturday afternoon.  It costs me about $55 when the tank is pretty empty.  With summer coming, I expect it will continue to rise for a few months.  We go through this every year. Kathi

Kathi, If the gas prices don't help shove this country into a recession, along with the housing mess, people getting laid off or cut back on their work hours, rising prices at the grocery store, retail stores closing at the Malls, I don't see how those "stimulus checks" Bush is releasing in May will help. I haven't been able to determine if the "stimulus checks" are an advance to next year's taxes like it was the last time we got "windfall" money from the government.  I know alot of people are planning to spend that money when it comes.   It frightens me to see businesses folding like the two airlines recently.  I think it will be interesting to watch the economy over the next several months. Hang in there, Marti. Kathi

Here inPortage,  Indiana we are paying about $3.39-$3.45 a gallon for regular unleaded. I don't even look at the prices of the more expensive. My heart couldn't take it!!!  I call the stimulas checks to little to late checks. I can' t believe the price of desel. remember when it was a lot cheaper than our gas and now it is a lot higher. That price of desel is what is causeing the prices to go up in the stores and then in turn we have to pay for it. The way the job market is going is in the pits too. I am really afraid of what is in store for us. This country needs a lot of prayers said for it.
