Best Friends!
Just because we've lost a great deal of wt doesn't mean it was because of some awful sickness.
Anyway, I just respond that I am feeling great - better than in 30 yrs. and they generally accept that!

Your posting sure struck a chord with me. I've been called scrawny, thin, skinny, to my face. Can just guess what's being said behind my back. FYI I'm 5'2" and weight 124 having lost 98% of the excess weight and wear a size 4/6. I tell these "friends" that I'm healthy for the first time in 30 years and feel fantastic. I've been told, like all of you, about the friend who gained all the weight back. That drives me up a tree. I always think the friends' concern stems from jealousy, envy or just plain contrary-ness. Or not understanding the surgery and what it means to us. Also consider that it takes a certain amount of courage to have the surgery and some folks could never do what we've done.
I agree it's time for new friends, or at least seeing less of old ones. My dearest friends of many, many years have been super supportive and am happy for me as I would be for them. The others' opinions don't mean diddly squat. My family is also on board and delighted for me!
As DH says, "Up their kilt with a wire brush!" or "nil illegetim carbonumrum" - latin for "Don't let the b......... grind you down."
Hang in there dearie, you're doing a fantastic job and you'll get to goal and look even more beautiful!
Hugs & prayers,
Rudie
