1. What is the biggest thing you have overcome in your life, besides the weight problem? Rehab after an auto accident 25 years ago that put me in the hospital for 2 months and in a wheelchair for several months after that.  Trying to be there for my family was difficult - my kids were 7, 4, and 2.  If it hadn't been for my loving, patient, caring husband, I would never have made it.  By God's grace and with George's help, I learned to walk again.

2. At what age did you realize food had control of you? Probably 10.

3. Was there ever a diet/food program that worked for you?
Nothing worked long term, so NO.
4. What brings the greatest joy to you?
My beautiful grandsons Gabe and Ethan, my children, my loving husband George, and my wonderful OFF/OH family.
5. Do you have hobbies..what are they? Collecting cookbooks, cooking, fishing, and crocheting baby afghans.

1. What is the biggest thing you have overcome in your life, besides the weight problem?
Grief has almost been my undoing, first when my Grandmother died when I was 16, my Dad when I was 20, my brother when I was 35. My other brother broke his neck at the same time and that hurt as much as the deaths. The depression that hit me each of these times almost derailed me.
2. At what age did you realize food had control of you? I was about 30 when I realized that food was in control.

3. Was there ever a diet/food program that worked for you? The only thing that really worked was fen-fen. I lost 70 pounds while taking it and I felt so "in control". As soon as I stopped taking it the pounds came right back (and then some).

4. What brings the greatest joy to you?  I love the children I teach- I love to do anything that makes me laugh. Animals bring joy to me, as well as all of the people I love- family, colleagues, friends and neighbors. I love to talk and socialize. I also love solitude.

5. Do you have hobbies..what are they?
I'm a hobby "queen".... I love scrapbooking, beading, reading, stamping, decorating, anything creative.

 1. What is the biggest thing you have overcome in your life, besides the weight problem?
The murder of my 31 year old sister by her husband and his girlfriend while her 13 month old son slept in the next room.  And the damage it did in my relationship with God. This caused problems because A. she was an innocent and B. I was a devout and faithful servant.  So how could God let this happen?  Lost my faith for a while and worked hard to get it back.
2. At what age did you realize food had control of you? 20 years old and 950 miles away from home.

3. Was there ever a diet/food program that worked for you? No.

4. What brings the greatest joy to you? My son and three grandkids.

5. Do you have hobbies..what are they? Being a Tiger Cub Leader in Cub Scouts, Crocheting and collecting miniature china tea sets from the different places I visit.

1. What is the biggest thing you have overcome in your life, besides the weight problem?  That is tough to narrow down. . .  giving up my children, willingly, because their father had better cir****tances to raise them in, which in turn caused me to become full blown addict (food, smoking, drinking, drugging, sex) to numb the pain of lost dreams, that of being a wife and mother. . .  facing up to my addictions and putting down first the drugs and alcohol, quitting smoking and now the food, losing my cousin 2 years ago.

2. At what age did you realize food had control of you?  I think I was about 35

3. Was there ever a diet/food program that worked for you?  Not really, I lost and regained every time.

4. What brings the greatest joy to you?   My children's accomplishments and now my grandchildren and I must say that this journey and the people I'm meeting as a result of it also bring me joy!

5. Do you have hobbies..what are they?  Learning new things via internet, as in researching things I'm interested in, in the past I enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crochet, bowling, I also love getting to know people and how they think and feel

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen
