has an age limit?   A friend of mine who is 61 or 62 said he's too old for this surgery. Judy

I was told by my doctor that the top of the range is 65.  It just depends on the doctor.  About five years ago, my then doctor, told me I was to old.  Truth was she was afraid of the surgery.  I am 60, soon to be 61 and my doctor says no problem as long as my health and all the screening allowed it.

I had my WLS at age 68 just last year. My doc told me he has operated on people in their early 70's, but it depends on a lot of different things....So I would say up to 70.

Oh yes, Judy, I've been on Medicare since I turned 65.
I also have supplemental insurance, BCBS of Michigan. I paid nothing out of pocket for the surgery, but did pay around $800 to the wt. loss clinic for pre-packaged food to use before and after the surgery (their requirement), plus $125 for the pysch evaluation. The nice thing about Medicare is, if you are at least 100 lbs. over weight, and have co-morbidities (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.) you are automatically approved.

My first visit with the surgeon was at the end of May and I had my surgery on Aug. 17th.....they usually figure 2-3 months to get your surgery date.

I came thru the surgery and recovery with flying colors.
I have been very blessed throughout this whole process and would do it again in a heartbeat!

I am covered by Kaiser until age 65.  I worked for a school district with very good medical.  I do wish they would cover me forever but they can't.  No district can afford it anymore.  We had/have 100% coverage.  No co-pay except for $5 for meds.  Another reason if I am going to do this I need to do it within a couple of years.

No medicare doesnt have an age limit for the surgery , if they meet the guidlines,,,,BMI over 40 and at least one of the illnesses, high blood pressure, diabetis  or something else and i cant think of it lol  but i was 65 when i had my surgery and now as healthy as a horse , as they say, Real Age the web site that says how old you are in actual years now has me at a actual age of 51 and im 67 and they say it is possible that i live to be 110 lol  Anyway 61 or 62 isnt too old. there are a lot of people on this web site that are older than that right along with me....
