Wow! A Big Pick-Me-Up!
Talk about a change! Some big change! Today was payday, and I got a big paycheck for my crappy Christmas Day triple time fiasco. Not as big as I thought, but pretty nice anyway. After doing my shopping, I got home and the mail was in. Mostly bills, it looked liked, but there was one personal item. I looked at that ... it was from my friends Bruce and Rita in Lubbock, TX ... Bruce is the one who has Hodgkins and is terminal. I figured it was a thank you ... I have sent him a lot of cards, trying to lift his spirits ... I can't do much for him; don't have money to send him gifts, but I try to find funny cards to lift him up. Well, I opened the card and out pops a check for ... wait for it ... $1,000.
That's right, a thousand dollars. My eyes popped out. In the card, he thanked me for all the cards and e-mails and positive thoughts. He said he knew I was going through a rough patch and said he and Rita wanted to help me out, and hoped the money would help. When I first saw the check, I figured a couple hundred. I thought that would be nice ... but a thousand? Wow. I sat there and cried for a while. Then I smiled ... then I cried. Wow! I know my brother would tell me to send it back, but I've always been taught when someone sends you a gift, you say thank you and use it well, in the spirit in which it was given. I plan to pay some bills (my heating bill is first and foremost) and get my car work done.
And somewhere along the way, I plan to pay it forward a bit .... I know Bruce and Rita are big fans of humane societies, so I may donate to the local shelter. I can't think of a better place to donate in their name.
I have had a lot of angels these past few weeks. All of you have made a big difference in my life ... be it with kind words, encouragement, money, whatever. I'm getting out of my doldrums a little bit at a time. Thank you so much.
I was telling one of the cashiers at Meijer today (as I was buying more Christmas cards ... 75 percent off!) that I lost 180 pounds and gained about 50 new friends ... I think that's a good trade-off, don't you think!
Eileen: What a wonderful surprise.....I am so happy for you. I know this takes a lot of the pressure off with bills, etc. I think the donation to the humane shelter is a really good cause....so many kitties and doggies needing good homes and it costs a lot to keep them healthy.
Hang on to some of those $$ for a rainy day, kiddo. Put it away where you won't be tempted to spend it.....then when you do have a need, it will be there. I am a firm believer in savings accounts even if they don't pay much interest.
We are so cold down here in Sturgis today - it was 1 above this morning. The sun is shining brightly and the snow does look "pretty" but the darn streets are a MESS.
I just can't seem to get warm.
So glad for you my friend.....God has been good to you, so give Him the thanks too!
Love ya,
Pat

Done! Your Ticker:
Hi Pat:
You, too, were one of those who were there when I was down ... told my mom about you, and you are now on her Rosary list ... that's a really special place to be. Thank you for helping me out last month.
I already put some in savings; some is going to paying bills. As I was going to the bank I thought for sure I was going to get in an accident or something bad was going to happen to me, but so far, everything's good.
Wow, what a good friend you have. Sometimes when we really need something, it comes. And you do have to love those after Christmas sales. I haven't lost the 180 lbs, put I sure have gained the 50 friends. Isn't it great. Have fun with your money even if most of it is to pay bills, it still feels good. Diana
