Hi
I have lived here about 36 years. I love it. However we do have rain in the winter--and once in awhile a little snow. There are quite a few grey cloudy days. But, I don't mine them at all. I would stay away from renting in parts of Springfield--town right new to Eugene. Some places are OK but some are not so good. I am giving you a site for you to check out rentals. We do have sun in the summer and that is about 3 or 4 months long. Nice Fall weather.

Find some you think you could afford the rent and then let me know where they are and I will tell you if it is a good area or bad area. Job are not easy to find. Oregon has a 9% unemployment. So it depends on what kind of job you are looking for.
There are always more jobs in the Portland area. If you have any interest in that area I also know a little bit about it. I guess what I like about living in Eugene, is that it is only about 1 hourto the Oregon Coast, and about 1 hour to the mountains. And about 2 hours to Portland if you want to go to the Bigger City. I love Portland, and both my kids live in Portland.
Here is another site to check out too. Let me know if I can help in any other way. http://www.eugene-or.gov/portal/server.pt

Hi - can you read my post above and tell me a bit more about Eugene? neighborhoods where renting is not too expensive but not scary with crime? some sun, at least in the summer?
whatever you have, I'd appreciate. I've been reading the forums over on city-data.com.
does the University have a good reputation there?

Hi Linda
I have been looking for work both where I live (Nebraska panhandle) and all over, including OR. I see some jobs in Portland and around like McMinnville, Tigard, and Hillsboro but also Eugene, Creswell and Keizer/Salem.
about all I know is that Portland is the biggest city, Salem is the State Capital, and the weather in general is wetter/cloudier the further north you are unless you are East of the mountains. is that right?
can you tell me a little more about Eugene? I love the idea of bleeding heart liberal and the outdoor opportunites but am a little afraid of the lack of sunny days and the cost of living. housing cost where I live now are VERY cheap so anywhere else I go will be a big shock.
thanks
Jackie

Topic: Summer and weight loss
Hi Everyone,
I hope that your weight loss is going well. I know that summer time can be an easier time for weight loss. It is a lot easier to get outside and exercise more. I know that it is hard to do, but if each day you will try to do something it makes it a lot easier. If you have a exercise buddy to work out with you that is really helpful too.
When I get up and start walking on the treadmill each morning, I sometimes think oh my gosh I don't want to do this again today. About 1/2 way through my 3 mile walk, I am loving it, I feel my energy level coming around, and I feel a whole lot better. I am the person who never liked to exercise, but as I started to lose weight it got a lot easier and I knew this was so helpful for my health and weight loss. Now I know that this is very helpful to my success at maintaining my weight loss.
Also during the summer it is fun having fresh veggies and great salad are nice too. Be a lot more creative with what you cook and how use use these fresh fruits and veggies. Think about making some yummy salads and adding things you normally wouldn't add. Add some nice fresh strawberries to a tossed green salad. You might find out you love all these veggies and fresh fruit.
You are on the road to a successful weight loss. NEVER give up on what you are doing or thinking about doing. WLS was something that changed my entire life.
Hugs,
Suzanne

Hi,
I grew up in Klamath Falls. I would have to say at the time I grew up there it was a great place to live. However a lot has happened with the loss of many major jobs going away. The mills have closed down, the railroad no longer is supplying jobs. There is not a lot of shopping unless you like Wal-Mart.
I would have to say if you are retired and don't need a job and love to hunt and fish then it would be OK. Oh yes you would need to like snow and cold too, the winters are long there. I would NEVER suggest that anyone move there.
I am in agreement with the other person; there lot of other nicer places to move to like Eugene. I moved from Klamath Falls to Eugene and love living here--that was 36 years ago. A lot more to do, and more jobs here too. Medford, OR is a nice place too.
Hope that helps,

Depends on which way you swing politically. KFalls is in more "red-neck" territory. It's warmer and dryer there than it is farther north. Eugene has an airport, is more liberal (heck - bleeding heart liberal), and is probably a bit greener and wetter (especially in the winter). I love living here because we are just over an hour from the coast and just over an hour from the Cascades Mountains. Lots of outdoor recreation. Yep, I enjoy Eugene lots more than KFalls.

Hey Lyn,
Having a great time. I have been packing my suitcase. We are flying out tomorrow for Reno, Nevada. We are going to Hot August Nights. It is a large car show for a week over 5,000 street rods and classic cars. We have 3 ourselves, but not taking any of them this time. Just going for a small vacation. I hope you are doing ok. Rememebr it is very normal to have all kinds of fears, and emotions and second guess yourself about having WLS. You are in good hands and going to do just fine. I will be checking my E-mail while we are gone too. So if you need anything, just send me an E-mail.
Hugs,
Suzanne
