Topic: RE: Anyone here went to Legacy Weight managment?
I just had my RNY on 8/29/2011.  This Week!  I went through Oregon Weight Loss Surgery (OWLS) and my surgeon is Dr. Patterson - Great.  By the time you get to this point you have worked so hard to get here.  I had no questions going in and this forum is invaluable!   I have spent my first week throwing-up though gently I have just kept pushing the fluids and doing my best.  One thing I was not prepared for was the curtling of my dairy products - but getting past that too.  Passed my gas today and started my liquid bowls moving now.  I assume this too will pass.  I know this all sounds negative but I don't see it that way.  Again I worked so hard to get here and I expected so much worse.  If this is as bad as it gets I am thankful.  Good Luck!

Hi Everyone,

I CAN NOT take credit for what this says, but it sure pertains to weight loss too.

"Don't waste your time in the race looking back to see what the other guy is doing. It's not about the other guy. It's about what can you do. You just need to run that race as hard as you can. You need to give it everything you've got, all the time, for yourself." — Oprah

This is what I have always said.  This is ALL about you and NO one else.  Never allow anyone to discourage you or bully you.  We are hard enough on ourselves, so do this for YOU and NO one else.

Hugs to you,

Hi,

The last 5 or 10 pounds are the very hardest to lose.  So one of the ways to do it is up the exercise like you said and still eat about 800 calories per day.  Remember that muscles always weighs more than fat.  So if you gain muscles then the numbers on the scale may go up.  You will know when you feel good and you are healthy. That is the weight you should be. at  You have done a fabulous job so far.  Congratulation to you and your success.

Hugs,
Suzanne

Thank you so much for your post Suzanne!  I needed that today.  I'm only about 10 lbs away from my personal goal but having motivational issues.  Your advice helps.

My goal of "10lbs" is really not so much about numbers, but how I feel.  Mainly, I think I need more muscle at this point and a little less fat.  So I need to add more fruits/veggies and get more exercise in to build up my strength.
Again,
Thanks!

Oh wow... if he wants less snow, just go over the pass to Medford or Phoenix.  You'll still be centrally located, still have a bit of the small town feel.  Great Southern Oregon feel.  I actually live in Salem/Keizer area.  If I were going to relocate in Oregon (and didn't have family in the Northern Oregon area), I would probably move to Medford.  Medford also has a slightly bigger airport and there may be more job-availability in your husbands field if he would like to continue in that area.

p.s. - as a WLS patient, Medford has a more experienced well rounded medical community including WLS at Rogue Valley Hospital.

Hi Jackie - when I was a kid watching old Tarzan movies (which were new back then!), they always talked about finding the "Elephant's Burial Ground" where all the old elephants went to die.  Back in those days, they figured if they could find it, they'd make a fortune in the elephant tusks that had to be lying about.  Well, Eugene is where all the old hippies go to die.  You see a lot of gray hair and tie-dye around here.  We have the University of Oregon, where I worked for 32 years, the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, the Oregon Bach Festival, the Oregon Country Fair (old hippies going wild in the woods for a weekend), the Eugene Celebration (this coming weekend, in fact), and the Eugene Saturday Market,  If you google any of those you will see that this is a pretty funky place to live, but I love it.  Even though we have a huge number of restaurants and some of them are really fancy, you're usually appropriately dressed if you're wearing jeans and Birkenstocks.  We have concerts at the Cuthbert Amphitheatre, some at the UO.  The housing prices are a bit high, and so are property taxes, but we have no sales tax, so cost of living as far as food and clothes go isn't too bad.  The trees here are HUGE.  They make the trees back east look like little matchsicks.  And the mountains - so gorgeous and peaceful.  The rivers are pretty clean but deadly cold.  Too many silly people drown each summer because they don't wear a life jacket when rafting and, if you fall out of the boat, hypothermia will not doubt take you before you can reach the shore.  It is wetter and cloudier the farther north you go.  The coast stays fairly cool all year.  It is drier to the east of the Cascades.  The area around Bend/Redmond/Sisters is called the "high desert" because it is a plateau at high elevation but it's very dry -- except in the winter, it snows there.  We hardly ever get snow in Eugene.  I'm orginally from the northeast and learned to drive in January, so I'm good on snow and ice, but I won't drive here in the winter because most everyone else has no idea what to do if we get a little dusting and they go into a skid.  It's dangerous!!  But, it's green, it's beautiful, it's clean, and I call it home.
