I hope you get more replies but I have noticed that this Oregon board is not as active. The other link I gave you today via email might be better if you have not posted there yet.

Topic: Panniculectomy in Portland?
I have lost 135 lbs and have another 100 lbs to go. I know it's too soon for my "apron" removal, but I am beginning to do research to find the right plastic surgeon. My doc recommended Shannon O'Brien at the Waldorf Center. So far I am not thrilled with their attitude. I also put a call into Dr. Zegzula. That was 10 days ago. His office never called me back. I guess he doesn't need my business.

Anyone out there have experience in this area? I need to have this surgery covered by my insurance, so I need a surgeon who is willing to work with insurance companies.

Topic: Anyone Have Lap Band?
I have been approved for a lap band and denied bypass surgery. My surgeon's office has been trying to get this approved since September.
I posted on the main forum and EVERYONE tells me not to do it,.
Has anyone had Dr. Tersigini do lap band surgery on them? He also says he is going to do an imbication.
I would really like to hear from anyone in Oregon about their experience and if they have had revisions.
Thanks!

Topic: Struggling and looking for support in Grants Pass
I had gastric sleeve surgery in November of 2010 and have been very happy with my results. I am down about 105 pounds but still have 10 more to go and can seem to get them off. I am struggling with my eating habits and feel like I have no self control.

I recenly moved to Grants Pass, Oregon and was wondering if anyone is involved in any support groups here or can recommend a counselor who understand post surgery struggles.

Thanks

Probably the best thing to do is check with your insurance to see if they have a preferred provider directory.  Usually, those doctors have services covered at a higher rate, resulting in a smaller co-pay for the patient.  From there, I'd go on-line and look for recommendations.  There are several on-line services that rate doctors nowadays and you might find a good recommendation that way.
Ditto checking your insurance company. I had my surgery in another state and my surgery doc recommended someone here for followup. But, they weren't covered by my insurance.

But, the good news was that the doc they did cover is excellent. My surgery doc is very happy with the care I'm receiving here.

Long story short, I have fallen off the wagon BIG TIME after having 2 kids. I need a RNY-friendly PCP who understands someone being 8 years post-op (and not great with supplementation!). Any ideas? I called OHSU but they need a referral. I have only been here a few years and don't even have a PCP. I JUST got insurance again after years of not having it. Thanks for any advice!

Edit: Just to clarify, I had RNY in 2004 in another state. I haven't had insurance for 5-6 years and haven't needed doctor care in that time (knock on wood!). I do not currently have a PCP or any kind of doctor here in Portland. I HAVE had bloodwork done at a lab testing place so I know I am anemic but I also was before surgery, so it wasn't surprising in the least.

Hi there, we have the same surgeon.  Ask your doctor about Miralax, or a generic.  I take it daily and it really helps with the constipation.  Made a big difference in my quality of life.
I'm not good at kicking people in the butt but hang in there.  You've done it before and you can do it again.

Hey Bil - how are things going?  Have you decided to go ahead with the surgery?  How is the place here in Eugene/Springfield?  I hope they have good doctors who will stick around now.  Despite having had to drive up and down the freeway, I'm glad I went for it and went to OHSU years ago.  Funny how I have to keep going back up there though!

I had a BA December 15th with Dr. Jewell in Eugene and ABSOLUTELY recommend him. I looked through his books and he does amazing work. I can't offer any other advice though as that is the only PS I have had done. I'll be having a TT in the next year or so but can't decide yet if I'll have Dr. Jewell do it or Dr. Tersigni. I don't want nor need any other PS surgery so have not looked any further than the BA and TT.

Good Luck!!!
