Congrats! Let us know how it goes. That's a pretty lengthy drive so drive careful. (we're almost neighbors, I also live in Yamhill County.) Stay safe!

I have Dr. Wolfe-I like him.  He explains things pretty well and his nurse practicioner is nice too.  He is out of the office a lot but you should be fine with RNY  I did lapband and it requires a lot of check backs for fills and such.

Hi, I am in Beaverton too.  I had my lapband surgery 1 year ago at OHSU.  I am a little older at 45 but kind of felt the same way-looking for a new lease on life.  78 pounds down it is getting there.  I was lucky and had no problems getting my isurance to pay for my lapband.

I have not gone to support groups really as I have felt that OHSU has a very rny focus and I am outnumbered at the meetings.  At a regional lapband get together I heard that there is a lapband group that meets at Dr. Pattersons office and have been thinking of attending that.

OH has lots of good info about many different procedures.

The RNY and the DS were the 2 I've been considering. If Doctor Deveney is not longer doing the DS, that limits the options unless you are willing to travel out of state. I'm not. I want to be reasonably close to my surgeon.

I didn't know that Vicki. Did he have a reason that you are aware of?

The first day after surgery .... 2 be honest you feel and look like crap... it will get better the second day I was very tender  all over though... when I first started walking after surgery I was so week and dizzy... it's not perfect picture... but through it all it was really worth every min... to see and feel the results.. I did quite we'll.. except my asthma... gave me grief because of the anesthesia.. but I went home on the third day after surgery... I did exactly what i was told...I had surgery on 07-16-09... I'm doing quite we'll knock on wood..but for three weeks I was strictly on liquids... three weeks soft/puree.. then after that on normal foods... each doctor will give you different instructions.. BUT I FEEL GOOD.. I was not in the best state at 380 LBS.. But after the first 30 lbs come off you can tell.. you will know exactly what I mean when it occurs for you.. GOD BLESS and you are in my thoughts and pray..

Is there anyone out there that has been over 500 pounds and had bariatric surgery? I am at 546 right now and so scared about having this done
At my WLS prep seminar, a guy mentioned that his weight had dropped to the low 500s from about 600# and went on to have his RNY the same week I had my DS.  The attendees all applauded his efforts!

If he can do it, then anybody else can!
