Didn't recognize heartburn

I have not experienced so much as a burp since my surgery two years ago. I have been blessed with trouble free gastric life. I started feeling like a huge pill was stuck in my throat. Eating made it really hurt, and drinking water was even worse. After a few days I felt I NEEDED to talk to Dr. Hong, because when something didn't feel right I got reminded that I have re-organized plumbing and "what if it's not working right?!?". In the meantime, I saw my PCP for something else. I asked about it and we decided it really didn't sound like heartburn, or at least what it felt like when I had it in the past with pregnancy. She gave me a drug called Aciphex to take until I saw Dr. Hong. I started it and within five days it was gone! Kind of makes acid look like the culprit. I ran out of the sample and within about five days it was back. That gives me and Dr. Hong something to discuss when we see each other next week. The most common cause of ulcers is H-pylori. Some others include use of NSAIDs, smoking, alchohol, all things I don't use. There has been an unusual amount of stress going on in the last two months, but wasn't expecting it to cause me trouble like this! Just a note to say that in my case the heartburn felt like a completely different animal this time around. Not in the same place at all. I guess as post-ops we can be suseptible to them more? Someone on the grad board was talking about the same thing. I will be finding out more, cause the stress aint going away any time soon. Patty

Wow Patty - thanks for sharing this with us. I don't think I would have associated it with heartburn either! I haven't had heartburn in so long it seems such a foreign concept now. Dina
