As we all know Kaiser's program is long and very difficult to complete... but I did in 12 months I was able to complete all of the required classes, tests, weightloss, ect and NOW 6 days from surgery they are telling me my "plan" doesn't cover baratric surgery! I received a call from the hospital business office (4pm on Friday)stating she was processing my admitting papper for next Friday and my surgery is not covered by my plan. How does this happen?? I called last year when I got Kaiser to see if my plan included surgery and member services said it did and Mary Lou the program manager verifies coverage to even be accepted into the program. I have invested ALOT of time, money, and myself into this program to have a start at a new life and now I could just cry. What a call to get @ 4pm on a Friday.... Of course the woman in the Hospital Bus Ofc couldn't help me and no one else was available on a Friday afternoon to help either. My last weekend before surgery and I don't even know if I should continue to prepare. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I feel that by accepting me into the Baratric program Kaiser gave me an "authorization" that they can't take back. Help help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have no suggestions, but did want to say how horriable! I feel so bad for you. Kaiser sis my surgery last Nov. so I know Mary Lou , Julie, Brenda the whole team there. I know you will be on the phone first thing Monday morning, Maybe there is a misunderstanding that Mary Lou can fix. Let's hope so.

Thank you, I am just sick over all of this. Monday can't come soon enough. This sure is a test on my new eating habits When I am stressed out to this point I either want to eat or cook. I am trying to keep my faith and not back slide.

Tomasina, I would certainly take this to the insurance commission. This is just horrible and I will be thinking about you and praying this turns out to be wrong. Julia

Okay now I'm worried. I am just at the begining of starting the Kaiser program. I called Customer Service as told and I specifically asked if Bariatric surgery was covered and they said yes. I live in Oregon and I don't want this to happen to me. I feel so sorry for you, this is just a nightmare. I hope it resolves into the way you want.

Thank you, my recommendation is that you get a letter in writing stating you plan covers the surgery. I of course didn't even think that would be an issue. Mary Lou also verifies coverage so I am interested to see how we both could have gotten bad information. But again get it in writing.

Hi Tomasina, I was at the support group this morning and heard your story. You have every right to be angry and I hope you don't give up. I can't help thinking that a mistake has been made somewhere and it will all work out. If everything falls through, get an attorney, Girl!!! Fight for what you have earned! Let me know if you want to talk sometime. Try to have a peaceful weekend and let me know what Monday brings! Joy
