Can anyone please tell me how long it took to find out if your insurance will pay for the bypass surgery? I went to a seminar in Portland at Good Samaritin Obesity Clinic this month and have 2 all-morning appointments schedule for April as well as the sleep study apppointment. I am just wondering how long from the seminar does it take to see if Regence BCBS will pay for the surgery. I was also wondering if anyone knows how much out of pocket the surgery will cost. Thanks for any information you can give me.

I am not exactly sure what you are asking... Your insurance company would know now if they cover the surgery. As far as being approved, you would have to submit all of your paperwork to them. It took less than a week for me to be approved but it can take up to 90 days. Out of pocket expense for Dr. Cagle/Dally was $34,000 approx. including anesthesiologist, hospital, surgeon fees.

I think Beka is asking how long it takes to see if you qualify for the surgery. Am I right? BCBS pays for it, but you have to qualify for the surgery. I think she is asking how much out of pocket it cost, after the insurance pays. I believe she is referring to state BCBS.

I was trying to ask exactly what Linda B wrote. Thanks for clarifying for me.
