Getting close to approval

3-17-06 All of my evaluations and letter of medical need were faxed to my insurance yesterday. I had planned to call my insurance today to make sure they received my packet of information but they called me first!! The nurse case manager said she received everything they needed and has forwarded it to a medical reviewer and I should have an answer in 7 to 8 days. Don't know if that is working days or what but you can bet I will be calling them next Friday on day 7!! I hope to have RNY soon. Julia

Thanks for wishing me luck Jen. My request was sent to the insurance about 2 1/2 months and in one day they denied saying it wasn't covered. I sent Dr. Mirande's insurance staff copies of the pages in the book that state it is covered and then they told us what evaluations, letters etc. I needed before they would be able to approve. If I am not approved, I don't know who they would approve! My BMI is about 53, I have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, borderline diabetic etc. etc. I am just praying they return a positive verdict! Good luck to you Julia! I would LOVE to see a post come on here from you saying you have the green light. It sounds like you have done a good job of the paperwork. Keep on them until you get approval. I know there is a balance of being persistent and being too annoying. When I was waiting for approval, I called about every three days "just checking the status of my approval for surgery". I was able to get the name of the department and person reviewing, and by the time it was approved they did know how much I wanted this surgery. Also, they said it would take 2-3 days to review, and it took more like 7-10 days. Ugggh! Good luck! Patty
