Hi I need some help to get started.
Hi my name is janice I live in Aloha oregon my insurance is Medicare A & B and Medicade or Omap what ever you want to call it , is there anyone out there that has had the Beriatric bypass approved with these two insurances .
And if so could you please share with me on how you done it . thanks janice
Hi Janice,
I am not sure if you know about this, or if it will even help you...but they just passed Bariatric Surgery for Medicare..look in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website www.cms.hhs.gov/mcd/viewdecisionmemo and this link should tell you about the decision to allow Surgery through an Excellence Baratric Center and as far as I know, the only one so far in Oregon is the one in Portland, the Good Samaritan Obesity Institute...but you can check other areas and info at www.surgicalreview.org. Hopefully you can find where to begin by reading these two sites...I have yet to have even a hope of surgery, but this at least looks optomistic...you take care and good luck!
Jen
Janice,
I do know several people who have had similar coverage and had surgery covered without a problem at OHSU. Of course, there are new guidelines recently published, so a lot of institutions are just now easing into them.
Be sure to check out all available forms of WLS, and be certain to be specific when pursuing WHICH form of WLS you would prefer to have done. That can be a very important determining factor as to which medical facility you need to be seen at.
Blessings,
dina
Hey janice.I also have medicare and got my surgery done without to much trouble but then i am already permanatly disabled and dont know if that had a factor or not. From my understanding medicare will pay for it as long as it makes you better and healthier. You should talk to your nurse practioner first or dr.They usually know the easiest way in.I had a sleep study done and found I have sever sleep apnea.Im not saying this is the awnser but im sure it had a faster effect on being eccepted.Ohsu is the place I recomend they work with medicare and they seemed to do all the work for me,they know exactly how the paper work is shuffled for medicare. If there is any other questions feel free to ask ok i will awnser the best I know how And good luck.
