Hi, I moved to Portland last year after having my surgery Jan 2005 in Seattle. I'm getting tired of driving to Seattle to meet with my Dietitian. Does anyone have someone that they'd recommend? TIA, Kathy

Kathy: You might try coming to one of our meetings. It is run by a nutritionist and you might talk with her about someone to meet with. Post-op meetings for RNY are the fourth Wednesday at 7:00. The next one is on 3/22/06. If you had lap band, the next meeting is 3/8/06. The meetings are at Good Sam Hospital, 1015 NW 22nd Avenue in the Wistar Morris Conference room on the 1st floor near the main entrance. Hope this helps. Pam

Hi Kathy. I went to a dietitian at the Obesity Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland. The dietitian was very helpful even though I hadn't had my procedure through them. Good luck. Peg

As Peg and Pam have said - there is a nutritionist at Good Sam who is active in the bariatric surgery program. I will add that she is great! I have been so impressed with her knowledge of the topics specific to our post-op needs, and I really LIKE her. I have found many nutritionists to have a real disconnect between the subject of nutrition and the issues of eating. She does great at learning what she can from us. Her name is Kelly (with a long last name I can't remember off the top of my head). I'm not at home this week, but if you can't find her with this info I'd be happy to look it up when I get home.
