Getting Up?
I was just wondering how long does it takes before your abe to get out of bed yourself?Im sure its diffrent for every type of sugery.Hopfully it will be a lap and probly will .was just wondering and any info would be great.I have lots of scars from surgery's and even one from my belly button to my sternem so going that way really wouldnt bother me to much either.Im just wondering so I know how long I need someone around lol..

Hi Michael!
My first journey out of bed was the day after surgery--around 9 or 10am (so, less than 24 hours). Quite honestly, there isn't too much pain associated with this surgery, so getting out of bed shouldn't be a chore after the first day or so.
Good luck with your meeting w/ your surgeon this week!
Take care,
Charity
By the time I was discharged from the hospital I was able to get myself up out of bed. I was able to do my shower and go up and down the stairs too (but very slowly). I didn't need actual physical help, but I felt like I needed someone in the house for the first three days - kind of the "just in case" support. I used pain medicine the first week, which I found made it easier to move around and do for myself.

Michael,
I was able to operate fairly normally before I left the hospital. I too felt I needed someone around for the first few days just in case, but I never needed any phyisical assitance.
Like you said everyone is different. The nurse that called me a few days before surgery freaked me out asking if I had someone to take care of me after surgery, I thought I was going to have way more issues. It turned out she was trippin. LOL
Best of luck.
