Hello: I am seeing Dr. Read on Monday for my first appt. I am eager to connect with other patients having had the surgery or waiting for approval. I go to the monthly support meetings but looking for additional ways to connect with people by email. I have some questions about my insurance approval, it says: The Roux-en-Y gastric bypoass may be covered for the treatments of morbid obesity when all of the following criteria are met: 1. BMI >35 with a diagnosis of diabetes; or BMI 40 with any comorbid condition; or BMI 50 with r without comorbid conditions. 2. A 6-month work-up is compelted that includes all of the following: *Dietary counseling and education; and *Medical evaluation; and *Psychological evaluation; and *Weight loss of > 5% over the 6 months 3. Surgery is performed in a recognized Center of Excellence My questions are around the "6 month work up" I have been seeing my PVCP every month in preparation and have gone to the support groups as well as diebetic counselling. I am working on the 5% weight loss. But not sure if the 6 months needs to start on Jan 1st when my new insurance starts of if they will consider the work I've been doing since September.

Hi Rose, I would call and ask Susan. She should be able to give you an answer and if not just call your new insurance and find out. I don't think it will matter that you've changed insurance policies, but I have been known to be wrong. Missy K
