Yep - I do. I have it for state employees though- some other plans are different. I do know if you are on the insurance with the state employees, they will not pay THIS year, but the plan is that they will pay for 2006. So if you have that insurance, hold out and look for approval for 2006. Start the requirements now though - the 6 month supervised diet, etc. Get those things started now and you won't have to wait as long in 2006. Good luck! Dina

yes, there are different BCBS plans depending on your employer. I have the federal BCBS and didn't have to go through any hoops to get approval. My Dr. handled all that and got approval in 6 weeks. Since I got preapproval, it only cost me $100 for the surgery, as the Dr. and hospital were both preferred providers. But there was still out of pocket expenses nonetheless.

I have Regence BCBS of Oregon. I am waiting for pre-autherization for surgery. I have had some problems with the insurance balking at paying some of the bills for the care leading up to surgery. I had to have the nurse practitioner rebill, as the insurance co said they wouldn't pay for weightloss treatment (even though they insist that they will pay for wl surgery). So they said that the nurse practitioner needed to rebill under something else that I saw her for. No problem, as there are numerous things she saw me for relating to obesity! And it is true that there are different plans with the regence bcbs and each treat this surgery differently.

Thanks for your info. I have this through Oregon Teamsters. In our Employee benefits book it states that I have to have a year supervised diet history, I didn't realize it had to be continuous. So that is my big arguement. I am appealing and may have to get my PCP in on it. I see that you have Emma Paterson, I am seeing JAy Jan in the same office. She gave the orientation I went to though in July, I also have Two co-workers that have her as a surgeon and are pleased with her. Good luck on your journey and keep in touch!
