I Feel like Charlie on the MTA
I've stuck here at 220, after losing an initial 45 lbs. Haven't lost anything in 2 weeks even though I eat hardly anything but fruit. Try to get my protein in but still find I don't like very much anymore. I do take my vitamins, Centrum A-Z, vita C, Calcium, Selenium, B-12, and Ginko Biloba, though not all on the same day. Still don't have much energy, requiring a nap every day. Must just be getting old. Only 2 months out. And still have not started losing hair yet. Er, and of course no pounds lately either. LOL Jer
Jerry,
Nobody is O.K. with the same darn number for anything more than a day! I must encourage you to have faith that things are still working. The fact that you haven't seen the number go down lately doesn't mean things aren't. 45 pounds in two months is a lot of weight! I do believe that the body has to stop and take a breath so to speak, and soon enough it starts to let go of the numbers again. In a years time I just didn't lose every step of the way - but I kept doing my thing and it would always start up again. Sometimes with a great big loss in just a couple of days! Common sense told me that I couldn't be eating the way I was and have it not be working, but when I didn't see that number I would always doubt things! Your body has responded in a big way - 45 pounds!
You may get lucky like me and not lose any significant amount of hair. At least as a guy if it does happen you won't stand out more than any of the other half of the male guys that are losing or have lost hair. You will know though that it is TEMPORARY!

Well Patty, I'm hopin' for the best. I just thought I would have more energy with the losing of weight, but so far it hasn't been the case. But I'm still overweight so maybe I just got to get back into the swing of things. Been a couch potato for so long , I just need to get some exercise in. What kind of vitamins do you take? And are you finding foods you once liked not quite to your taste anymore? I don't mean sweets, but good stuff like fish or salads. Used to love lasagna but last one I had, it wasn't that good anymore. Same with other foods, but love fruit now. Just hard to get my protein in daily. Jer
I found the increase of energy was gradual for me. I was never able to say that my energy soared. As the months went on I just added more and more to what I did in a day. It is mostly in around the house activities that I realize how much more I do. Instead of JUST mowing the lawn (and barely getting through it) I mow, weed, sweep - pretty soon I have been out there a couple of hours. I was really a couch potato. I rarely sit through a whole show anymore - it seems like I'm busy until bedtime. My little dog still worships me, but he hates the skinny busy new me. I used to be really big and soft and warm, and I was always lying around - with him lying on me. He walked around on me like I was his piece of furniture. I've got tons more energy, but it took time to change.
I've always liked a salad, but now I crave and eat them all of the time. I used to crave fried foods. I can still be moved if I'm walking around a county fair and smell the stuff, but I do not ever seek it out and am happy with a couple of bites of someone elses. Pasta and melted cheese seem too heavy now. I really am drawn to the vegetables. I often think of the B.B. King song "The Thrill is Gone". I do still have a thing for home baked cookies I have to admit. Don't listen to the craving often, but it didn't go away after months of not eating them.
I take Centrum Multi Vitamin with iron at night, Calcium in the morning. I started out taking Flinstone chewables. I also started with chewable calcium, but after a while I got really sick of the taste of them. I have always had really good labs - so this seems to be enough for me.

I wanted to tell you that i am researching and prepping for WLS, soon i hope. Been going to 24 hr fitness at 4am to swim, workout before work, calming and less crowds-though fx of legs/arm 6m ago so doc says stay off weight machines as i am so heavy and bones might separate. I found these Ensure hi protein chocolate drinks at Walmart-very good. Also, i put shaker cup and powders to mix with water-in desk at work. Like them and havent had surgery yet-maybe for you?
You know I do have some Ensure drinks in the frig. Er, they have been there since my surgery July 26th. I guess I'll try them again to see how I like them. Can't be any worse then the others, maybe even better as I did have a couple right after surgery. Laine, you sound like you have Kaiser. You have to jump through a lot of hoops before they will approve your surgery. But depending upon your weight, a lot of Dr's will require you to lose some before surgery. The less fat around your organs, the better it is to see them. It was the best move I've made in a long time. You miss the foods you used to eat, but not the problems that came with it. No more diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, or aching knees. I'm sure you won't regret it either. So keep up your quest.
Hi Jerry,
I am 2 years out...have lost and maintained 110 lbs weight loss. I have more energy than I could have ever dreamed possible. I would encourage you to switch your vitamins. Centrum is about the worst you can take as a WLS patient. They don't break down well enough for you to get anything from them. You should really invest in vista vitamins or Juice plus. Especially if you are having energy problems. And don't worry...the scale will move! You are doing great, keep up the good work.
Take care,
Shelley
