What are your favorite eat out entrees
What can I say - I love to eat out. Bypass surgery hasn't changed that at all. It's partly being in an on the go family, partly just that well I like to eat out. I know some people are concerned with portions or trying to get something from the childs menu. Early on I would just plan on a take home portion which was great. Or I would order an appetizer. I would usually ask for the take home container right when the food came ("Can I have a to go container, I'm not going to be eating all of this"). That way I would divide up the portion I knew was in my best interest and put the rest away. For the most part food servers really don't care about what you do or don't eat, and I have always found everyone very accomodating. It is my preference to not identify myself as a bypass patient. It's not that I am at all ashamed of it! I just found the phase where I could not eat a half way normal portion went so fast, and in that period I just shared, took home, or left it.
Anyways....some of my favorites that worked for along the way (of course this comes with the advice that foks are only suppose to eat what their surgeon has said they can, at the point post-op they are advised to try things at)
The turkey hazelnut salad at Burgerville. Still a good one for me. I started by eating off the protein items (turkey, cheese, nuts)
The turkey club on whole grain at Burgerville. I remember this being the first "eat real food while out" thing I ate. I cut it in half and ate that half and it was yummy. I guess most people wouldn't eat the bun, but I hoped the whole grain part justified it for me?
The Talapia with mango salsa on the weigh****cher menu at AppleBees.
The Southwestern grilled chicken salad at Carls Jr. unfortunately got discontinued. Again, early on I only ate the protein off of it (chicken, cheese, beans). Jack in the Box has a similiar one, but I suspect it is higher calorie.
Manzana's in Lake Oswego makes a wonderful chicken torillia soup.
My current favorite is getting the french onion soup with a side salad at Red Onion. I am happier with this than the days when I used to get a big greasy burger and fries. Onions never bothered me, but I think they can give some people gas?
I am not a fish lover at all, and cooking it at home just is too much for me (the part about dealing with and smelling the raw fish). In honor of protein and my new eating lifestyle I often order the fresh seafood entree if I go to the kind of cafe that really does it right. I have enjoyed lots of fish this past year.
My favorite is Bento. I eat the lunch meat portion with the tiniest bit of rice. Again, I am a lot further out than some of you, but this became my favorite about six months ago.
I don't like the grilled chicken at the McDonalds, BurgerKing, etc. places. I don't have trouble with chicken at all, just think it tastes so fake.
So there - that's the trouble I've been getting into this past year. How about you? I find satisfaction that I am able to eat healthy and still feel like I am enjoying the eat out experience. Plus you have to arm yourself with options for when you need to eat.

Hi Patty,
We are two peas in a pod when it comes to loveing food!! My ultimate is the the cobb salad at Red Robin. I eat the good stuff off. The other is a good steak. My hubby makes wonderful steak, so if it is not pouring down rain, then we are grilling. Sometimes it is chicken, but it is always good. Eating healty is a lot easier now. Applebees has a wonderful weigh****chers menue. Also wanted to say thanks for all your posts and being in the boards!! Have a good rest of your week!!!

oh my, I just can't eat enough at one sitting to make it worth going out to eat. Sure miss going to the Olive Garden, but we're not supposed to eat pasta and that now anyhow. But I'll survive without it I guess. Did go to one of my past favorites, KFC and got a 2 piece meal. Ate only one piece and the cole slaw -threw potatoes out cause they tasted not quite right, and ate part of 2nd piece next day and gave rest to cats. Just couldn't eat more. Other things like fruits I can eat a lot of. It figures, when it comes yo protein my tummy flakes out, but when watermelon is on the plate it pigs out. Jerry
