I didn't THINK I lost much hair

I remember as a pre-op and for most of those first months post-op I was plenty worried that I would lose my hair. I don't have the best head of hair and was sure I couldn't spare any! At the predictable time out (about 2-3 months) I did find that when I washed my hair (every day) I would have about 8-10 strands of hair on my hands. It never amounted to looking at my hair and thinking it looked more thin. Compared to other people's accounts of having a handful of hair out, or a brush full of hair, or a clogged drain because of all of the hair loss, or hair all over their pillow, I have not felt I could even say that I lost hair. What was coming out stopped by about the tenth month. I mention this because just this week I have suddenly noticed when I dry my hair that I have this halo of two inch hairs sticking up on the crown of my head. I guess I underestimated that I was losing any! It's a nice reminder that as we get further out our bodies pull back to normal in lots of ways. Even if I had lost so much hair I had to get a wig I would have felt it was worth dealing with temporarily. The altered state we get in during the first months post-op are a very short term cost for months and years of improved health and well being. At least that is how I feel! Patty

Look at the bright side. Now when you go to a halloween party you can go as Sinead O'Conner. Been only 4 weeks for me so far so have not had that problem. Getting my caps and Hulk Hogan bandanas ready for the big one. Heard that extra protein and suppliments can help. Since our hair is mostly protein, it gets shortchanged while your body takes the amount of protein we take in and distributes it to needier areas. If we had an excess, the hair would get their rightful share. The trick is taking in extra. So far, I'm having trouble getting in minimum. The protein drinks taste like . Wouldn't be bad if you could drink it down at once and get it over with.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I had the same exact thing but I expected it to happen though too since it happened when I did Aktins one time and then again when I had Mason. I had 2 sets of bangs forever! Now I don't have bangs, but I ended up with them for awhile after that! Dina
