I am 6 weeks post op and still cannot drink carbonated drinks. I am trying to get my liquids in but I am getting sick of the few non-carbonated drinks I can take. I miss the "crispness" of soda and carbonated drinks. Anyone remember when they were able to stand these drinks again or ever?????

Hello! I am 18 19 months out and cant drink them at all. Some people have been able to, but even flat pop makes me hurt. This may be the case with you. I was told to try things 3 times in 3 month intervals. (Wait 3 months until you try it again) Good Luck! Sarah G -207

We were told not to drink carbonated drinks because they tended to make you hungry. I have tried some of my old diet drinks and they taste off. I think I haven't been out long enough - only 2 weeks - and my taste buds are still off, cause nothing seems to taste good, especially the protein drinks. Only thing that tastes good to me is sugar free lime jello with some non fat cottage cheeze mixed in. Yummy!

I was told I should not drink carbonated drinks again....ever. I was told the carbonation can stretch out your pouch....all the bubbles I guess. Try the Minute Maid Light drinks I suggested to Jerry. I really like them. I've also been drinking alot of "JuiceTea". It's a new product and I like it because it's not overly sweet but not "blah" either. Good luck, Michele

I fall in the 50% of people who don't believe carbonated beverages stretch the pouch. Surgeons argue about it, so I figure if they don't REALLY know as a fact, I'll go with how I feel. I drank Diet Pepsi products at first several months out. If you pour them over ice it will dissapate the carbonation enough to drink it comfortably. Well, I will say for many people it would be comfortable. Not all. Now I drink any diet soda I like. On a rare occasion if it fizzes too much (root beer) I may feel foam back up, but I just take smaller sips then. Some people never get to where they feel they can drink it again. Others do just fine. If you aren't in pain, I don't think there is a chance of stretching the pouch. I ate too much once and it was quite painful as I felt my pouch stretching. There is no way you can mistake the two once you experience them. Dina

I drank pop after about 6 weeks and now drink 1-2 a day. I had duodenal switch, so that may be why I can. Best wishes to you and yours Isha 366/247/220-170 www.duodenalswitch.com Eat Normal & Lose!
