is it my imagination-running away with me?
I'm not sure what to make of this, but foods that used to taste good to me don't cut it any more. Had some cod today and though I have loved it in the past, it tasted bleah to me. Same with chicken as I always baked it - was yecch! Does this operation change the taste buds in any way? Even diet pepsi with lime which I loved is not up to par and tastes different. Sometimes, even good bottled water tastes different. What gives?
It will mess with your taste buds initially. I couldn't touch tuna for about 8 months and eggs for about 4-6 months. I know you can't relate, but how I felt after surgery was much like how I felt when I had morning sickness when I was pregnant. I think it is a hormonal shift, and even though it seems like it wouldn't affect men, I suspect since insulin is a hormone and it affects other hormones, it can be very similar for men as it is for women.
That's why I had problem with the whey proteins as well. To this day I can't really hack them much. I can use Unjury but that's about it for whey...

Hi Jerry!
As everyone else has stated....your taste is messed up for awhile. I'm just over a year out and alot of things still either don't taste right or just aren't appealing anymore.
I used to love carbonated soda too, but I've tried sips here and there and they all taste awful to me. The Crystal Light products taste really "sweet" to me. I've been drinking alot of a fairly new product in the juice aisle,"JuiceTea" and 1/2 strength iced tea. My treat in the evening is 1/2 JuiceTea and half blush wine over ice.....very nice out on the patio!
I've also really liked the new Minute Maid Light drinks. I've only seen them in cans, but they taste good.

Like Dina, I couldn't do the whey proteins. Alot of people think they're great but I found them pretty disgusting. Along with the Detour protein bars, yuck.
Just remember, things WILL improve over time.
Take care,
Michele
