Pre op tests
Did my pre op tests today. STill going for surgery in SF with Dr. Jossart and vertical sleeve gastrectomy.
I am finding it helpfulto keep researching data related to long term eating and exercise. It have become eveident in my mind that this is the key to keeping lost weight off for the long term.
I can't wait for this to happen. Looking forward to feeling better!

Oh boy - how exciting for you! I am also eager to find out how this surgery works for you. It certainly sounds promising. I know that the popular thought is that a bypass of intestines is important to aid the weight loss, but after talking with a surgeon locally about it, I found out that the body eventually will learn to compensate for most of the intestinal bypass, so eventually we will end up absorbing most of the calories anyway. I suspect he meant in those with proximal bypasses and not distal. Either way, if it ends up that way, then why bother with it? I know I have to still watch how much I eat. I gain easily and have to keep an eye on my intake....even with the bypass. My body is good at storing calories already. So I rely on my pouch to keep me from eating too much and it seems to be the main thing that is helping. I don't know if I would be any different off if I had no bypass and just a smaller pouch. Hard to say.
Anyway, you are right about getting the lifestyle down now. That is the most important thing in wls. Getting there is only half the battle. The other half - which is the harder part - is keeping it off and making sure our lifestyles are in tune with maintaining the loss...
