Who is the best Bariatric Surgeon In the State of OR?
Is it just me or are there fewer surgeons listed in OR then in other States? I sure would like to identify more of them and really get this listing where it should be.
I know Ashland Hospital has a WLS program, but there must be more. I would like to hear from anyone who's surgeon is not listed, maybe we can get them to update a profile?

Hi Douglas,
Try the website above for Southern Oregon Bariatrics. I had surgery 4/12/05 with Dr. David Street and Dr. Mark Eaton assisting from this group. I have had a 100% success and to date have lost 82lbs. I have no complaints thus far and enjoy the support group meetings once a month. If you have trouble opening the website I have provided you can go to google, Oregon surgical specialist and at the lower right hand corner you will find the bariactrics program.

Thanks so much for the link, I visited the website it appears as though they have a very large group! What hospital was the surgery actually done at?
It is wonderful to hear that you have had 100% success, keep it up! You should post that type of success so others can see it, I am sure the surgeons would like to hear about it. Thanks again for sharing...
Well, I know Dr. Monte Stewart who is doing the surgeries in Ashland. We attend the same church. My own surgeon was in Mexico, but Dr. Stewart took me on as a post op patient so that I can see him if I have any issues arise. He was extremely informative and knew his stuff. That impressed me because he explained a lot of stuff that I didn't know even after spending so much time here learning so much.
A couple of the surgeons in Medford have slightly more time in doing bariatric surgeries than Dr. Stewart, but the others are probably right about the same as him. I think Eaton started doing surgeries early 2004 and Stewart started doing them I believe in Oct 2004. They are all relatively new to bariatric surgery, although most of them have been established general surgeons for years.
Dr. Mirande is in Klamath Falls and has been in practice there for several years. I'm thinking maybe 5 years or so by now. I thought it was more like 3, but I was told recently that it was longer than that. I have met Mirande and he was also very knowledgeable and a very nice man. I have heard wonderful things about him as a surgeon. He does pretty much all of the procedures from lap band to Duodenal Switch.
Dr. Tersigni is in Coos Bay and I have also heard wonderful things about him as well. I don't know too many who have seen him, but those I've spoken to rave about him.
Dr. Flanagan retired recently. He was in Eugene. He was for the longest time I think the only bariatric surgeon in the area. I'm not sure if in all of Oregon, but if not, then one of the very few. Then you have several in the Portland area and I'm not sure about the other areas.
I think the thing is that there are several who haven't gotten listed here yet and who haven't advertised as much, but they are out there. Just have to ask around. Hope that helps!

I had my lapriscopic bypass done at Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay, OR. by Dr. Stephen Tersigni, a veteran of over 700 of them. It was great! There is about one nurse for every 4 patients and their service is excellant! The nurses were there before the call button rebounded after pressing it! The only time I had to wait for anything was when they took me down to flouroscope for the "drink test" to see if anything was leaking. That 5 min was a short wait! I had it on a Tuesday, and drove myself home the next Monday after a followup visit to the Dr's office, driving back to Portland, and not needing pain medication after the 4th day. The hospital stay itself was only 2 days. Came in Tuesday morning and left Thursday morning. My surgery was July 26, and all the incisions are about healed already. Dropped only 15 lbs so far. I highly recommend this Dr. and hospital. To add icing to the cake, they did all the paperwork to get the surgery approved by my insurance co. I didn't have to day anything. My insurance was the Federal Blue Cross which covered the operation, even though I only weighed 275 lbs. But health problems like diabetes helped with the approval.
In the Bend Area Dr. Marinis Koning (sp) did my surgery Can't say enough good things about him and the St Charles Hospital. Because we lived 2 hours away we used the campgrounds that are located on the Hospital grounds. Hang on for this They will even let your dog visit you in the hospital. The campground is very nice it is sponsored by Jeld-Wen it had 12 spots and has all hookups and it is free.
