New
Hi everyone,
I am new to the board too. I live in a remote part of Oregon and hope to make many friends here for support! I am scheduled to have a VSG (can't seem to change my profile) on September 14th in San Francisco. Any others out there post op VSG?
Relieved to be here!

Hi Barbara!
I have never heard of the VSG! What exactly is it? Isn't that funny? I thought I knew all the procedures out there.
I'm probably one of the few people out here who has heard of Plush before. I dispatch for OSP and we cover that area...but granted we don't hear a lot out of that area. Take that as a compliment. I grew up in the John Day area and that place we are *always* hearing from!
Good to have you with us! Hope to hear more from you in the future!

Hey - I just looked it up. Pretty cool if you ask me. It's a Verticle Sleeve gastrectomy. (I think) Essentially it's like a smaller version of a duodenal switch without an intestinal bypass. So the stomach is about 2-4 ounces but no malabsorption. It's pretty new. The concern is for regain, but I kind of think that isn't such a big deal really. It is much less flexible like that and I was told by Dr. Stewart in Ashland that our bodies get used to the bypassed intestine so over time our body learns how to absorb all those calories again. At least that goes for proximal bypasses. Maybe not distal.
Anyway, I thought it was really cool because there was no bypass done on it and you retain full stomach function. Way cool!!!

Hehehehe!! Yep, Plush is definately in the Oregon OUtback!!! I commute 40 miles one way to wwrok in Lakeview!
VSG IS Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. Essentially, it is part of the DS procedure however they are finding many lose successfully on the stomack resection and do not go on to the duodenal switch. The Dr. Explained that they do not have alot of long term research of patients to date but are working on it. The concern is regain, however there are no guarntees with all of the procedures. Healthy eating and exercise are important components to keeping the weight off.
P.S. Dinka, I work for Mental Health so I have a great relationship with OSP!
