Looking for Portland Support Group

Hi - I just moved to Portland and would like to find a good support group to join. I live in NE portland, but I could go anywhere. I had RNY Dec 7, 2004 and have lost 125 in these last 8 months and have about 50 more to go. Now that I am about to start a new job in a new city, I want to make sure I keep working towards goal and stay with the plan. Thanks for any info you might have. Sara Jane

Hello Sara! I will be moving to Portland (close to Beaverton) late August and would love to join a group as well! Maybe we can start one if there isn't already one in progress? I have not had my surgery, just in the information gathering/waiting for insurance to begin stage and would love to hear your story! Amy Cooper

Hi Sara Jane, Legacy Good Samaritan Obesity Institute in Portland has support group(s?) that meet on a regular basis. I only know this because I will be having WLS there. At the orientation they told us about the support group. They might also know of other support groups in the Portland area. I am sure you can find their number in the phone book. Here's the support group info for the one I attend in Beaverton. They also have a meeting once a month at OHSU with alot of the same people attending. I've included the link to the Yahoo site and the time and place for the next meeting. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Northwest-OSSG August 10th 7:00pm-8:45pm The meeting is at: Beaverton Community Center 12350 Southwest 5th Street Beaverton, OR 97005 You can easily find it by going to the corner of SW 5th and SW Hall across from the Beaverton Public Library. The meeting starts at 7:00 PM and goes until 8:50 PM. Also, many people use the meeting as a place to bring and exchange clothing, so feel free to bring clothes you no longer fit in. Sara: Hi. Kaiser Permanente has several support groups going. You can call 503 286-6816 for the locations. This number is for Health Education classes that they offer. Peggy
