Any Bariatric Rehab in Oregon??
PLEASE!! If anyone out there knows of a place in Oregon that can rehabilitate my brother without surgery, please let me know. He weighs about 650, is 31 years old, and has major health problems. What he needs is a facility that will house him, feed him the correct meals, give him medication, counsel him, have group therapy available, physical therapy and excercise facilities, and teach him how to be a regular human being again. He is very scared about dying and wants to turn his life around, but is adamantly against surgery. Can anyone help out there?? He is about to be released from the hospital - he has been there for 7 days because of edema, sleep apnea, and strep infection. Please help!!
Thank you,
Julie
Julie,
A 31 year old adult male who is 650 pounds cannot rely on any program or any other person to whip him into shape.
Even the surgery takes a serious committment and lots of hard work to get to a healthy place and maintain it.
There is no magic wand and there is no where in the world that obese people are locked up for their own good and forced to lose weight. What would the point be if he just eats himself back to 650 pounds?
Just as any other problem, he has to be willing to do what is necessary to save his life and his health. No one can force him into it.
Since your brother has been in hospital with serious health consequences from his obesity, he knows what he needs to do to get better.
My only suggestion is to see what you can do to have him get a psychiatric consult while he is in hospital. He may have a depression that is an obstacle to good decisionmaking.
Other than that, it really is up to him to do something.
peace,
tee
