I just moved here from California where I was attending a WLS support group. Does anyone know of a group in the Portland area? I had open RNY April, 2004. 253/190 Dr. Tanaka (pacific bariatric, San Diego)

Hi Laura! There seem to be a few of us moving from California to Oregon. I just bought a house in Tualatin and will be moving in a couple of months. I have been surprised at the amount of welcome I have received. Oregoians seem to be wonderful people! I was going to post the same message. I hope you find a group. I hope to find one, too! Best wishes! Joy

Joy: We LOVE Oregon. I'm going to try out a support group in a couple of weeks. I am also a Kaiser patient. Where will you be having your WLS? - Laura

Actually, I am ready to have my surgery here, in San Francisco. Just waiting a while longer. Hopefully, I will be ready to move soon! Keeping my fingers, toes and all appendages crossed! Maybe I'll see you at a support group??? Joy

Welcome! I also had my surgery in April 2004. My surgeon Dr. Hong is part of The Oregon Clinic. He works with Dr. Patterson. There is a post-op support group that meets once a month at Good Samaritian Hospital in Portland. The next few are June 22, July 27, August 24, at 7:00 p.m. The address is 1015 NW 22nd Ave., in the Wistar Morris Conference Room, just inside the main entrance on the first floor. It doesn't matter if you didn't have surgery with them. Hope to see you there. Patty

Thanks, Patti! I think I will plan to attend. What kinds of things are discussed there? Because I am over a year out now I am wanting to be with people who have gone before me and that can give me encouragement/help with my "food issues". I am afraid that I am not being as careful as I should be about my choices. I am still losing. Having started at 353 and being down to 190 now. I would like to lose about 40 more. - Laura

My response didn't show up on here - so I will repeat.... The support group I mentioned has changed facilitators this past year so the format is a little different than it was. Most often though there is everyone introducing themselves, and discussion of issues people may bring up. Lately there has been guests that are there to discuss a specific subject. This month Dr. Connal a local plastic surgeon is going to visit. Also, I know Kaiser has a monthly meeting. You would have to call the bariatric program at Sunnyside (you can call 503-813-2000 and ask the operator to give you the number - the lady in charge of the bariatric schedule is Lou Anne maybe it's Mary Anne). Hope to see you! Patty
