Yipee!!! I made it too!!!
I was wondering if it was ever going to happen!! I was scheduled with Dr. Hong to have the RNY on the 10th of May. I, however, was unable to make that appointment because I, for some unknown reason, got an ear infection.....what is that all about??? I started wondering if that was a sign?!
But NO, I was not giving up that easy. So on 5/24/05 it happened!!! I had the surgery!!! YIPEE!!!! I had the surgery!!! It was great! My hospital stay was wonderful and I had some of the best nurses. I had a slow start as they told me to check in at 7:30 but did not have me scheduled until 11:00 and some how that one person in charge of the bull horn did not get wind that I was not having surgery until 11:00 and she called my number to come on down the the surgery area. When I got down there they then discovered, again, that I was not scheduled until 11:00. That is alright because the nurse, Thresa, was wonderful. She and I chatted up a storm and it kept my mind off the surgery itself.
When the wheeled me into my room it was good because all was going just perfect....my pain was being managed well by the nurses adn they were polite. I was up walking at about 9:00 that evening and then up again at 3:30 in the morning and then I just kept getting up and walking around whenever I could and that was quite often. During one of my walks is when I found out that I was in the same area as Brandi!!! Yeah! I met Brandi. She had her surgery the day after mine. she looked great! She looked so good I wondered why she was having the surgery!!!
So today I am officially 4 days post op and I am feeling suprisingly well. I don't really have any pain unless I push on my incesions, and believe me I don't do that very often! But I do have ALOT of gas bubbles rummbling through my tummy!! They don't seem to be going any where just rummbling! This evening I was adding up my protien intake and realized that I have not had nearly enough....so I see that this will be my challenge. That and seeing if I will ever have a bowel movement. I jokingly told my husband that I finally tooted....and all I saw was a puff of dust come out!!!!!!!!!! After it being used in overtime for so many years it seems weird that it is not getting more use. But enough about my backside!
I really feel well. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop....Dr. Hong told me to quit waiting...could it be that I am just one of those people that the surgery was made for???
I wanted to say thank you to everyone that sent me such nice postings before I went in and believe me...I put all of the pieces of advice to work and I thank you all.
I will post later...I think I better go lay down.
Thanks All!!!
Dawn
Great to hear from you Dawn! All of this good news on the board this week! It really makes me happy to know that you are on your way to good health, and that your surgery experience was as good as it was. I was one of the lucky ones *****ally never had anything much to boo hoo about in those post-op days. I didn't even have any gas to speak of (or at least not any that caused any pain). Your bowels will catch up with you, and don't be alarmed if they are kind of weird at first. I wondered if they were always going to be like that, but they got more normal than they had been in years, fairly quickly.
That is so cool that you and Brandi hooked up. It is nice to have a surgery date twin. I didn't see any one when I was in the hospital. I had a great experience at Good Sam, except that the bar above the bed was right in front of the T.V. screen. I know that is a pretty minor thing, but when your T.V. and chapstick is all you have going on, it did start to get to me.
I had a hysterectomy on the 26th, so I am feeling a bit for you new post-ops in that I was forced out of bed to walk, wanted my I.V. out A.S.A.P., and had the whole hospital experience again. It was a cake walk after the WLS, but I am letting everyone pamper me anyways!
Keep us updated.
