DS- 2 weeks post op - bowel question
I am 2 weeks post op and trying to get used to my new insides. I was wondering, is how things are working now, pretty much how they stay? Or do things improve? I would love to hear your experience. Personally there sounds like there is a constant fireworks show going on, and the visits to the bathroom are...explosive. How was it for you, and if it did get better, when?

Isha,
Things sound pretty normal for being a couple of weeks post-op. Believe it or not, things settle down as you're able to get in a few more calories, and as your new gut configuration gets used to foods going through again.
Remember what it was like when you had a baby who was starting solid foods? Remember explosive diapers when baby was introduced to a new food, and how some things made baby more gassy than others? Well, kind of the same thing with us. Just like with a baby, your tummy is gonna need a chance to kind of "harden off" and get used to stuff.
Your priorities right now need to be:
1. Get in your water. That means 64 oz of water daily. If water is gross, try it a different temperature - whether hot or cold - doesn't really matter, just get it in. If you absolutely can't stand it, try gatorade, or watered down fruit juice, or even sprite mixed with fruit juice. You gotta stay hydrated girlfriend!
2. Getting a little bit of something to eat in at least every 2 hours.
Are you cleared to eat anything now? Or does Dr. McConnell still have you on soft foods? What you eating nowadays?
The first three months are the wierdest gut wise - although every day gets a little bit better.
Let me know if I can help at all, okay?
Blessings,
dina
