Hey Brian, Unfortunately, it will definately add to your wait time...they will not put you through to see a surgeon until you have shown some weight loss...for most people, about 30lbs. I am assuming you have another apt with brenda and Julie? They will want to talk about why there was a gain, look at your food journals, etc. Its not the end of the world, but it will delay things. the Kaiser docs are real hard a*ses and I have seen them cancel surgery dates 2 days before surgery for a 1 or 2 lb gain. Hi Brian, I agree that Kaiser is very strict with the weight loss. They WILL NOT send you on to see the surgeon without the loss. I have been to a meeting with a person who was there to see brenda and julie for the 5th time and she was giving up due to the fact that she could not get the weight off. I wish you luck. Please email me and keep in touch! sarah 2/16/04 -187 lbs.

BRIAN, I know from the support group meetings that you do need to lose about 10% of your weight pre-surgeon consult...for you around 45 pounds. Sometimes if they see significant progress you go in for less weight loss. They won't kick you out or anything, just ask more questions for what you should do to lose the weight...most in the Skyline group said they have done Atkins pre-surgery. Hope this helps! Hi Brian; Unfortunately, if you can't seem to re-lose those extra few pounds you gained, they most likely will have you see Julie and Brenda until you've lost or maintained your weight loss. I believe they won't move you forward in the program until you show that you have your diet / eating behaviors controlled. While I was going thru the process before both of the appts with them, I would gain a few pounds the week before my scheduled appts. I'd FREAK, and then I'd just become VERY strict with myself. Increase my water intake decrease my food, eliminate ALL bread and sweets (except apples). This always seemed to keep me focused and I managed to lose the extra few pounds -I even lost a couple once. If you've been doing well, and you don't lose, they don't hold that against you! As long as you don't gain. Good Luck and keep your spirits up! You'll make it.
