I'm getting Lapband
Hi everyone,
I live in Medford Oregon, and decided to go with the Lapband. My surgery covers both kinds of surgery, bypass and lapband. I am going to Dr. Mirande in Klamath Falls. Dr. Tersigni in Coos Bay is the next closest to me but I can't make all those long trips after care. Tersigni is 3 hours 45 minutes away campared to Mirande which is 1 hour 45 minutes away.
Dr. Tersigni and Dr, Mirande has both done over 500 bypass ops, but Tersigni has done 100 bands compared to Mirande doing about 30. But I really have no choice I cannot drive that far because of certain cir****tances. I met Dr. Mirande and he was sweet , self assured and confident.
I am 52 years old and have diabetes. Otherwise i'm in pretty good health . My bmi is 42 and I weigh 237. Of course I am a little nervous I don't want this to fail. I will be meeting Dina some day soon , she is in my support group and we both live in Medford, so I am looking forward to that. Right now today I have the darn flu, but I will go to the next meeting .
Hi Dina, send me a schedule again please. Thank you.
If all goes well I should be meeting my doc for pre op Feb 16th . and have surgery on the 28th of Feb. We'll see how fast the insurance replies.
Well thats about it I'm going to read the other posts and get to know some of you. I belong to the lapband group here at wls and to Bandsters on yahoo groups. Take care everyone, nice to meet you all.

Hello Diana... I had lap band surgery in Monterray, MX on Jan 20th and am doing well...I'm near your age...so I do want to tell you to plan on feeling rather draggy for the first two weeks. I'm 3 weeks out now and almost forget I had the surgery from the stand point of "feeling" the pain.
Occasionally if I stay at the computer too long...over 2 hours with out getting up, I feel achy over in the port area. When I have enough sense to get up and move around a bit, and THEN go back to the PC, I feel fine.
We are flying to Oregon the end of this month to do a quickl "look see" to make sure we are doing the right thing before putting our house up for sale and moving. I ended up in Oregon in late September as a result of deciding NOT to stick around our home in Florida with no electricity/water and TONS of heat....Courtesy of Hurricane Ivan! From the time we drove into Oregon, I felt wonderful and knew I had reached my new HOME!
I like the southern Oregon area but house prices there are just way too crazy. Additionally we think it would be more interesting to live in a college town like Eugene or Salem. As I get older and less enthused ALREADY about driving, having a good public transportation system matters more! Although..one of my BIG weight loss goals is buying a scooter to tool around town in! ( Much as I do love my gas guzzling Aurora, I know it is my last 8 cylinder vehicle)
Best of luck. I'll be looking for a lap banding doc to do my fills once we move...so please check with your doc @ some point and just email me if he does fills for those he's not opereated on! I am so glad I did this...and I hope you will be pleased with the results of your surgery also! Some of the younger folks go ON & ON about their surgery/lap banding...but believe me...after all the OPEN surgeries I've had, this was a much less painful ordeal. Also, we are under anasethic much less time than the RNY type surgeries, and I think that is easier on our bodies.
