I started this journey into WLS last Feb. and I have been fighting with Medicaid to get this surgery. I had a hearing on Sept.3 and they said it would be 30 days before I heard anything. I contacted Medicaid to find out what was going on after 2 mos, and they stated that it could take up to 3 mos. Well, 3 mos. is coming up fast and haven't heard anything yet. Dec. 3rd will be the 3rd month. If I am denied again, I don't know what I am going to. I just found out that I have 3 ruptured disc in my back and I need immediate back surgery and the doctors told me that they will have to get an approval for surgery before they can go ahead with it. Can you believe it, they heard from Medicaid in 2 days with an approval for back surgery. They will approve major back surgery quickly, but not for the bypass surgery that I need desperately. I even got my foot Ulcer back 1 year later in October. My wound care doctor told me that he was hoping it wouldn't come back, and now that it did, I will probably have to wear my crow-walker(special boot/cast) from the knee down to my toes for the rest of my life to keep the pressure and weight off my foot. He said if only Medicaid would approve me for the gastric bypass surgery, things would look up for me and I would be in better health. And I probably wouldn't have to have the back surgery. They wanted me to have the surgery Dec 3, but since it is my son's birthday, I wanted to wait, and I really wanted to wait for I was hoping that I would and will hear from Medicaid with an approval for the bypass surgery. I hate to have the back surgery for they are going to have to put rods and screws in my back. My mom had it done and she has never been the same again, and the doctors told me that if I can have the bypass surgery and get the weight off, I might not have to have the back surgery. But what I wanted to find out from anyone on this board, is there any finanical place in western Ky that will help me with the payment of the surgery. I am on SSI and only get a small amount of money a month. I can't afford it,and really need the surgery quickly. So if anyone out there reads this and can give me some information on how to get someone to help me pay for this surgery, I would so much appreciate it. You can email me on the board or you can email me at:[email protected]. Thanks Sandy
